My broadband been spot on for years since we went on fibre. Yesterday morning it started fluctuating between no internet connection and that slow its unusable. Nothing changed re what's connected, the light on the router solid white not flashing any colour which suggests everything is fine but clearly not. I've changed the cable from the master socket to the modem as it runs under the carpet.,gone into the connection inside the master socket to no avail. Spoke to tech support after going round in circles for 1hr there sending an engineer but not till Tuesday, you don't know how you use it for until you lose it any suggestions what I could try would be greatly appreciated not great with tech so it would have to be quite simple.
I had similar issues on and off with Sky.. I’d had enough in the end and binned them off and switched to BT. Not the answer you’re looking for I know, but I’m not that tech savvy either.
If you’ve done all the usual reboot stuff and changed the cable then I can only think it’s external and possibly something maybe in the local cabinet (assuming your service is Fibre to the Cabinet). the providers tend to say there are no known faults as they are open to compensation I believe but also, they only tend to recognise faults when it impacts an area rather than an individual. Have you done a speed test either on your mobile or your PC? That will confirm the download and upload speeds. There are lots of free options for these. I have knows an issue whereby a cable was trapped in the cabinet which massively impacted the connection speed at the property but didn’t show as a fault. hope you get sorted
We was with sky and it was slow as hell and always dropping out, I rung them and they sent an engineer who replaced our old router and installed a new booster, works perfectly fine now
The technical support team should have gone through everything with you before booking an engineer. If it's intermittent, and you're losing sync (which it sounds like), you're best bet is to try into the master socket directly (with the thin phone cable), and if that doesn't work, wait for the engineer. ~EDIT : When you say it's slow but unusable, have you tried a wired (ethernet) connection?
Thanks for the replys guys just wanted to check i wasn't missing anything obvious and seems not ,my very kind neighbour has given me their password and I've connected the important stuff I'm very grateful.
I had issues yesterday morning. Rung sky and they sent a engineer within 3 hours, (forest fan tho) and he was brilliant. Honestly, he left no stone unturned, sorted my vipers nest of wires round back of the tv, fitted me 2 new sockets, fitted a new booster upstairs, subscription to sky movies fo nowt the lot...wasnt able to directly sort the issue as it was a openreach problem external to the property but rang them and told them we needed it looking at asap. Woke up this morning and all working. Internet so strong now could be a hotspot for Hoyland Nether. Too often I have to endure poor customer service but this guy was mint... I even had to fake interest in his football club.
Update come back on running at 21meg usually between 40/50 but came back as fast as it went off strange it's all black magic I tell you lol.
