I'm currently on a pay monthly contract that is £45 per month, I'm not using anywhere near my allocated minutes so want a cheaper contract with less minutes. One about £20 per month. My 02 contract is due to end/due for renewal at the end of this motnh. What should I do? Go into o2 and ask for my contract to be terminated and then get a better deal through one of the ads in the newspapers?

phone the customer services and they'll offer you a better deal if you mention you want to leave.

You can scale down to any other O2 contract after 6 months.

Just ring them and ask. Actually, tell them you're thinking of cancelling, you can get some excellent deals offered to you that way.

So if I phone them and tell them I am thinking of cancelling as my current contract is too expensive and I am looking for one around £20 then they will offer me a better deal? When is the best time to do this as my contract is up in about a week?

    Cheers

    phone them now.
Mention that you aren't happy with your current tarriff and have been looking at Vodafone, T-Mobile etc who will offer you a certain phone plus xxxx tarriff.

If you have your eye on a new phone, and O2 charge for it tell them another company will do it for free or £xx.xx amount

    Essentially

But don't tell them what you expect, let them make you an offer, it might be better.

Only indicate the phone you want and maximum you're willing to pay when they've more or less resigned themselves to losing you.

All good advice here, but just to inform you that you will need to WRITE to o2 if you do want to terminate your contract. They will not let you cancel over the phone. I have signed up to an o2 online tariff. They seem far better than high street tariffs. You can tailor it more to exactly what u want, but you do need internet access (which you obviously have) to make best use of the service. The o2 online tariff is great. I pay £25 p/m, and for that I get 500 off peak cross network minutes, 500 text messages that can be a combination of text and picture messages (1 piccy messages = 4 texts) and also as another added bonus I get 1Mb of WAP (mobile internet) access free p/m.

Most contract phone tariffs require you to give 28 days notice of cancellation so I would advise that you ring them ASAP.
