Drove down Doncaster Road today and noticed an orange glow lighting up the inside of Oakwell. Has that always been the case or have we got heat lamps on the grass or similar? I don’t drive that way in darkness usually so maybe I just haven’t seen it for a while and forgot.

The lighting encourages growth in the grass. I think we've had it quite a few years. I seem to remember seeing it on wheeled carriages.

Light reduction becomes a limiting factor for the growth of turfgrass leading to decreased quality and wear tolerance of the playing surfaces. Thereby the use of lighting in stadia is more and more common and is now considered as a requirement to maintain high-quality playing surfaces.

I wondered why there was an orange glow over Oakwell. Was working overnight down Twibell St and noticed it all night til about 6am

Sometimes. I was scared when it was on Radio 4 at 11.30pm on a Saturday night ... not the sort of thing to listen to in bed.

Yes it’s the artificial lighting rig. I take the dog walking on the old Barnsley Main muckstack twice a day and you can see right into Oakwell from the top. The ‘rig’ seems to always to be situated between the North Stand and East Stand

So does Hoss 5hit, and there has been enough manure on it recently to ensure a healthy growth.
