Oakwell Planning Application
At the recent Supporters Trust meeting, the subject of the recent planning application by Oakwell Community Assets Limited (OCAL) to sell off two pieces of parking land on the Oakwell site was discussed. A brief history of the role of OCAL in securing the continuance of Barnsley FC was outlined by the Chair of the Trust. This was followed by an outline of the discussions already held with OCAL on these proposals. After a discussion, and a Question & Answer it was proposed, seconded and passed by the Barnsley FC Supporters’ Trust that the planning application to develop the two areas of current car parking should be supported subject to several conditions. Included in these conditions is that any proceeds from the sale of the sites for development should be reinvested in the Stadium and surrounding area for the Benefit of Local Residents and Supporters of Barnsley FC. This should include community facilities if possible. That the impact of the loss of parking and the need for replacement sites should be recognised in the Town Centre redevelopment plans. That consideration should be given to restricting the Grove Street area for residents parking only. That consideration should be given to the allocation of parking permits to Grove Street residents to allow free parking on the Oakwell site on matchdays. That consideration should be given to planning alternative routes into the Oakwell area to allow better/easier access and egress than at present to Grove Street, Pontefract Road and other surrounding areas.
