Those who say there is no plan B are wrong. On Saturday we started with 1 up front supported by 2 wingers. We changed to 4-4-2 with 2 defensive midfield players. We changed again to a standard 4-4-2 and finished with a 4-2-4. Last night, we again began with 1 up front but this time we used pace. The man up front was supported by an advanced midfield player with two defensive midfielders behind him. We changed to a traditional 4-4-2. I reckon that the only formation that we have not tried is 5-3-2 with wing backs, so watch for Bobby playing in the centre of a back three on Saturday.
In those two games, we have tried every possible combination of players on left and right wings. In fact, every player in the squad has been given a game, or part of a game, with the exception of Bobby and the first year professionals.
For the most part, we have perservered in trying to pass and move, even though the two defensive midfield players clearly are out of their depth with it.
Most people have concluded, in spite of his previously good record, that this is an indication that we have acquired a manager who is totally out of his depth and who is floundering about looking for his best 11 and his best system. Those people may well be right. However, there could be another interpretation.
Could it be that our easy pre-season told the manager nothing, either about the character of the players or the system most suited to those players. In that case, the manager may have decided to continue with the pre-season into the first few games in order to learn more about them, their strengths and their weaknesses. Is early season simply an exercise in determining which players to move on because they do not have the right stuff. I hope that this manager has a hidden something that he has not shown us yet, because on the showing so far "we're doomed".

Could well be but surely he can't be evaluating the players he has signed with a view to shipping them out?!

I like the cut of your gib sir! Obviously pre-season we played dross opposition which gave us no indication of the relative merits of the squad and systems. Other teams managed to get premiership opposition or good opposition from abroad, we got a woeful Wednesday side and Scunny. What this has exposed is that 'Doylson' looked fine when they had time and space on the ball, come the real thing and they're not good enough to pass quickly and break up play effectively, this is why we have been drubbed - carrying 2 passangers in midfield is going to get you beat at this level everytime.
