Hi all, If you're not aware of the Not The Top 20 Pod, it's the only podcast dedicated to the entire EFL, unless you count Sky's effort which is mainly just interviews. We treat all teams equally, if anything we probably talk about Newcastle, Leeds, Villa the least. We've been loving Barnsley this season, and waxing lyrical about the club to listeners. No more so than this week... We gave Conor our Player of the Month for August award. He's been the best player in the league, and we discussed his performances around the 2 minute mark. Sounds good. I'll definitely give it a listen. I used to listen to We are going up before they ended it this season so have been looking for a replacement. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Yes, WAGU was brilliant. They announced their retirement about 3 weeks after we started, and we've heard from lots of people who say they've been looking for a replacement, that's why we're trying to spread the news! Let me know what you think!
I'll be honest I was a little skeptic at first. But I enjoyed it. A few things I disagreed about regarding Bristol City but maybe I'm bias I thought it was very good. I'll be listening more frequently
Although I did like the bit about Johnson talking 'BS' - That's definitely true, all us BFC fans can confirm that!!
Thanks for that mate, welcome aboard! Fill me in no Lee Johnson and his 'BS', I'm intrigued... I'd heard that he had a reputation for it but interested to know more.
So, the EFL have chosen Conor as their winner. But don't forget who did it first! https://soundcloud.com/ntt20pod/8-transfer-window-review-monthly-awards-tips
BS might be the wrong term I reckon. He used to say a lot of things which I genuinely think he believed, and was too stubborn to change his opinion when he was clearly wrong. Our season inevitably changed last year when we went to a traditional 442 formation after months of 451. Lee Johnson was publicly under pressure and kept making comments such as Hourihane being unable to play in a 2, and 'Northerners being obsessed with having 2 strikers'. He attempted to convince us that Connor Wilkinson was a better player than George Waring that we'd had on loan the season before. Waring had looked a very good prospect under Danny Wilson and then Johnson, and scored about 6 in 18 for us. Wilkinson's goalscoring record in league football was much poorer, he initially turned down a move here due to his wage demands, and then was brought in on loan. Oldham fans had pre warned us about him. But Lee Johnson insisted that he was "better" than Giant George. One other minor occurrence which I found incredibly strange, was Lee Johnson's treatment of Simeon Jackson. Jackson was on trial for about a month prior to the season starting; I saw him play in a friendly against Huddersfield, and he showed glimpses of his former glory. He was weirdly kept on trial until a few weeks after the season started before being offered a deal. He then went on to make several substitute appearances, and looked pretty sharp. He found himself 5th choice behind a misfiring Michael Smith and Conor Wilkinson. He was then released with Lee Johnson saying, 'he needs a run of games to get going and I can't give him that'. This was baffling considering our first choice front 2 suffered with injuries consistently and the next 2 in the pecking order were awful. Well enjoyed your podcast by the way. Will give it a listen more often for sure. Sent from my phone using my hands
