Barnsley avoided relegation at the end of last season, and a move to Oakwell would re-unite Odejayi with former Whaddon Road favourites Martin Devaney and Grant McCann. There have been reports that the Oakwell outfit were ready to pay £300,000 for Odejayi. Chairman Paul Baker would not comment last night on the club or the fee involved, but he remains confident that Odejayi can be persuaded to stay. A clause in the Nigerian hit-man's contract states that offers over a certain amount have to be accepted by Cheltenham, and that the player would get the chance to talk to the club. "It is a substantial offer from a Championship club," said Baker. "We understand that the player would want to talk to the club involved. "But we will also get the opportunity to talk to Kay before he makes a decision." Odejayi is set for talks with the bidding club early this week, and is expected to meet with Robins manager John Ward after that. "No deal has been agreed as we would want to talk about sell-ons and other clauses," said Baker. "I don't feel it is a done deal yet. I am still confident that we can keep him here and we will talk to him about extending and improving his contract." Odejayi scored 15 goals last season to help the Robins stay in League One. He scored 13 the season before as Cheltenham won promotion through the League Two play-offs. Those two fine seasons were in contrast to his first two campaigns at Whaddon Road, when he scored only six times in total. "We will do everything we can to keep him here," said Baker. "We feel he has got a good future ahead of him here and he has a lot of respect for John Ward." Odejayi has recently bought a house in Cheltenham, yet could decide that this is the time to try his luck at a higher level.
tut tut another grant mccann.... good in the lower leagues but pretty good chance he is not ready for the step up. You need to look at championship players or better Davey.
McCann did well towards end of season just like foreign players often take time to settle in the Prem, some players take time to settle in a higher league. I rate McCann
RE: Forget that, he must be ****....... You can go saying McCann is good, he was signed from a lower league club.</p> And this striker, well he will be no better than Regis was..... What the hell is Davey thinking, he must just want to waste cash that we don't really have!!!</p> Come on us 'FANS, lets start thinking of a song that we can slag him off to, and don't forget to practise your boo's.</p>
RE: Forget that, he must be ****....... "F*ck off back to Cheltenham, F*ck off back to Cheltenham"</p> </p> Thats one, I'm a genius </p>
our season swung back towards us staying up when mccann was dropped to the bench and howard played in the middle
