Can I make a suggestion re these two? IF either of them start tomorrow, and this may seem a tad radical for many on here, but could we actually get behind them from the first whistle to the last? I know its asking a lot, as many would prefer to berate them and get on their backs as soon as their name is read out on the team sheet, but maybe, just maybe cheering them from the rafters may help. Like I said I know its a radical solution but you never know ......
You're spot on with Odejayi mate. His confidence must be absolutely shattered when he walks on the pitch to a chorus of boos. I made a point on Boxing Day of loudly proclaiming, "Let's hope these ******* don't boo him before he's even kicked a ball - give him a bloody chance for Christ's sake". Knob-head sat behind me waited until his name was called before shouting "Boo - you lazy, idle ******." I retorted, "Give him a chance mate, he's not even got on the pitch yet, to which he replied, "You obviously didn't go to Leicester then, lazy tossbag". So this ***** is carrying a grudge from as far back as Leicester. He had an outstanding game at home to Coventry but that's conveniently forgotten in favour of a **** game at Leicester. I'd suggest that Howard has had as many **** games as Odejayi but with no abuse whatsoever which is a good thing. Why not extend this to other players like Odeayi, McCann and Togwell who seem to be the favourites for abuse before a ball is kicked?
We all liked Odejayi at the start, shame if he got a couple of goals in those 1st few games it might have been a very differant story for him. If they do start they will be given my backing, after the game however i will give my opinion nothing more nothing less.
That was harsh of the guy that said that to you, as from what I can remember of that wasted journey, nobody played well.
He was right though, I didn't go to Leicester but it wouldn't have made any difference if I had. Every game is a clean slate as far as I'm concerned (And the majority of fans) and I judge them on that game's performance. There's a small minority who go to games with pre-conceived ideas on players and get off on shouting abuse to provoke a reaction from people around them. Attention seekers.
Let's get Richards and Conlon back Because as far as I can see both Kayo and Mossto are ten times the footballers those two were. We've come on leaps and bounds in the last 4 years, and the fact we can call on a Peruvian international to come off the bench speaks volumnes. Mossto will come good, I just don't buy into this "he just runs around a lot". Sometimes I think are strikers are blamed for our lack of midfield imagination and decent service.
Funnily enough I was thinking something similar in regards to Muller & Howard. Ever since the transfer rumours surfaced about the duo being watched by Premier League clubs, the BBS has been inundated with posters claiming that neither player is any good really and highlighting the 'many' flaws in their respective games. No comments about their strengths & performances that attracted the Premier League scouts in the first place. Just berate the players simply because they lose a bit of form. Like you, I wonder whether this people would prefer to be watching the likes of Andy Marriott and Gary Jones instead. The playing side has come on in leaps & bounds if scouts are coming from Premier League to watch our players. Also, I'd suggest that we in turn are a far more attractive proposition for any potential transfer targets than we were a short time ago.
RE: Richards scored more goals last season with a worse team, than either of these 2 tho`~ nt Time spent on the pitch? Penalty taker at times? Hardly a comparison to the Fox is it really? Play the game mate! I thought Marc Richards gave his all when playing for Barnsley, but just wasn't good enough, are you saying you'd take him back to be our sub striker?
RE: Funnily enough This is Barnsley Football Club though, and if we don't put a negative spin on 99% things connected with us we wouldn't be carrying on the long tradition I've known us have since the Premier League days. It beggars belief sometimes how people think. Who was the goalkeeper from Wycombe we had on loan? I mean Jesus Christ! And while he was in goal we had a midfield 4 of Betsy, Mitch Ward, Gary Jones and Alex Neil. And let's throw in Gibb as left back for good measure! If players struggling to get a premier league move can see that other players are joining Barnsley and getting their performances recognised by the top teams, we're certain to become a more attractive proposition.
What I said was that he scored more goals! I didnt say he was a better player than Mostto, but he was definitely no worse than KO. As for wanting him back, No I would not want any ex player back, it just does not work the second time around. The point I was making was that the strikers we have signed cannot score goals, I dont care how much people say that we should give them time. If they cant score , get shut and buy some that will, or give the big lad that scores in the reserves a crack at starting a match. Christensen cannot do any worse that KO and Mostto did when they started matches. 1 goal apiece is garbage from 5 matches.
I know I should be the last one to point an accusing finger But we've had some real porkers over the years, Mark.
RE: I know I should be the last one to point an accusing finger Glavin was not exactly svelte, neither was Ray McHale, but they could play football. Its the Porkies that cant play that were the trouble
RE: I know I should be the last one to point an accusing finger Can I be Glavin? You can be McHale. Jumpers for goalposts.
thing is if we do go with these two from the start a good idea, its not like we are willing them to fail but its more likely to be polite rather than the rapturous support you are advocating the rest of the team will need to change their tactics to suit because neither are target men that Ferenczi and Macken are/were. You could argue that KO has the attributes to be a target man but is still too inexperienced and naive. Without a change in the overall approach to accomodate the front mens' strengths, despite the best intentions of the supporters we will have no end product, the opposing team will recognise this, get on the front foot resulting in backs to the wall defending - leading to frustration amongst the crowd I will be disappointed if these two start because I think it was shown in earlier matches that despite the differences in their size and shape they are more likely to feed off a target man. Stan may be looking like a tired old warhorse but I think he needs to be there from the kick off
