I dont see what all the fush was about. Ive read comments that he shrugged off two men etc.....

Ive just seen it on Barnsley World. It was a lucky ricochet, didnt shrug off a man and the defender couldnt make a challenge as it was in the box and he'd have been sent off. The keeper could have also done better coming out.

I didnt see it live, but whereas a goal is a goal is didnt seem that great to me.

Im not a pessimist, just dont believe its worth raving about like everyone is. Its hardly Darren Barnard against Hudds is it?

Agreed mate. How many of our other strikers over the past 2/3 years could have scored from that opportunity? IMO, none. His strength and pace took him through, and he was composed enough to finish. It looked very good from the East Stand, and having seen it again yesterday, I wasn't disappointed.

It was a decent goal. The fuss I think is all about us at last having a player who is strong enough and quick enough to score that kind of goal. When was the last time we had a player like that?

I'm with you on that, it looked good from East Stand. He knocks the ball on twice, keeps control well and does hold off a couple of challenges, the guy in the box was trying to pull him down, reckon he could have won a penalty but he kept his composure well. Of course it's not a "great" goal in the manner of Darren Barnard against Huddersfield, it's a different type of goal but that is not to detract from it being a good, well taken goal.

Miserable sod

It was a lucky ricochet caused by him pressurising the defender. A lot of strikers goals are lucky as they just happen to be in the right place - Owens too goals against Russia for example. Some strikers are luckier than others - Michael Owen Gary Lineker for example.

Now the control - a looping spinning ball taken coming on the chest at full spring -then headed on into the perfect place away from the defender without breaking stride followed by a cool finish under the advancing goalkeeper. If that had been Drogba the pundits would have been saying thats why he is worth 25Million

It was a completely different type of goal. It wasn't a spectacular scissor kick or a curling volley from 30 yards but it was an extremely well taken goal. Let's go over the timeline:

1. Odejayi WINS the ball on the half way line from a Scnuthorpe defender.
2. Ball flies high into the Oakwell sky and drops down 30 yards out, Odejayi takes it down exquisitely with his shoulder - Yes, his shoulder - for anyone who plays football regularly, you'll know this isn't the easiest place to control a ball on - especially one that's coming from an height.
3. Odejayi - knocks ball forward into his run with his head, setting himself up perfectly whilst battling 2 defenders and an on-rushing keeper.
4. Keeping a cool head, he puts the ball into the next from 9 yards whilst the 3 Scnuthorpe players try and tackle him.

Are you really trying to put a downer on that? It was a good goal, it wasn't spectacular but it was a good goal. Let's try to be a little more positive hey?

End of day he made the goal. He charged down a ball which put it back into there half, chased onto it, held the man off and slotted it home.

Whether any luck was involved, or saying the keeper / defender should have done better doesn't matter. He allowed himself to get into that position.

Over the past 6 years we've had strikers...

...who can't score from 6 yards in an open goal.

In my book Ode's goal was class.

Marc Richards v Forest on sky..

not too dissimilar. Pressured defender Wes Morgan, robbed him, left him, cool finish.
More significant maybe, is that a first goal really helps a striker at a new club to relax more during games.
Look how long it took Diego Forlan to score for the then best team in the prem.

It wasn't a tap in

He had a bit to do, and he did it.

He miscontrolled it to start with got a lucky bounce, but after that he did very well

He covered 1/3 of the pitch with one defender trying to tackle him and another jogging back. I assume the bloke jogging back thought his teamate would be OK.

He didn't get powder puffed off the ball, had to control it with his head and chest initially, while on the run and being tackled ...and he found the back of the net. I thought he did pretty well.

Darren Barnard?

You say Ode's goal had some luck involved and then compare it to Barnard's V Hudds...ffs. Anyone thats played football will know that Barnard could try that again every game for the rest of his career and not even get it on target. He swung his leg, with great technique granted, made perfect contact and it shot in. Best goal I've seen at well, but all goals like that involve luck, if it was pure skill he'd be doing it once a month.

Ode showed composure, strength, speed and skill, yes it got a lucky break, but christ on a bike how many goals are scored where they opposition don't even get a touch on the ball, not many.

Class in my book, more of the same please!

Neil Shipperley.

He scored a carbon copy of that goal against Sheffield United in the 2-0 win of the season we got to Wembley.
