I struggle to understand the apparent clamour for him as manager. I remember the God awful run that Donny went on the season they went down and SOD wasn't able yo come up with anything to turn them around (notwithstanding a larger wage budget).

I fully accept that he was probably removed too soon at Donny but wonder what about him makes people so enthusiastic that he is the man for us.

Don't get me wrong, his teams are entertaining and play the right way - so I would be quite happy to see him in charge; I just don't honestly see him as being at all likely to pull us out of position we're in.

Same here. But if he was appointed I'd support him.

I don't see any manager getting us out of the situation we're in with the squad we've got if I'm honest - there certainly isn't a candidate that I think "he'll save us."

However, O'Driscoll has experience at this level and at League One level, including a League One promotion. That gives him an edge over most candidates in the long term.

As good as we can get. People obviously looking at how he turned Forest round. The Doncaster journey is probably closer to the one we'd get. Mourinho would struggle to keep us up. Just have to hope we make some miracle signings in January, to give us a chance.

But how long would it be before people compared his ramblings on P or G as being akin to a Paul Hart?

look at the job he did we Bournemouth? the fact that Donny went down was due to ridiculous signing's they made upsetting balance of the squad. i think the year before he guided them to a mid table Finnish. you only need to ask forest fan's who they would have now. doubting the man before his even sat down at manager's desk

    You're right

Doncaster went on an awful run whilst he was manager, leading to his sacking after seven games last season. It'd be irresponsible for any potential employers to ignore it and I'd expect it to be brought up in an interview. This would at least allow him an opportunity to give his side of the events. However, if anyone tries to intimate that was indicative of his entire Rovers career, they should also be labled as irresponsible. He has won promotion with both AFC Bournemouth & Doncaster Rovers and won the Football League Trophy with Rovers. Once they had gained promotion, they initially struggled to adjust to life in the Championship. Indeed, we did the double over them that season. By January, they were stuck in the bottom three and looking to make a quick return to Division 1. O'Driscoll didn't panic, stuck to his footballing philosophy and gradually got the team winning again. So much so that they moved out of the relegation battle. By the end of the season, they finished 14th, a higher position than any Barnsley manager has achieved since Bassett in the Millennium season. Barnsley, on the other hand, were involved in a last day relegation battle at Plymouth.
This season he's put together a squad capable of challenging for promotion for Forest, proving he (unlike some managers) is capable of spending money wisely, as well as working on a tight budget.
If the club decides to go for an experienced manager, then common sense dictates that (irrespective of who is chosen) part of the experience they have picked up will include failure somewhere. Experienced managers with no failures on their CV's are quite rare and unlikely to select a club facing possible relegation from the Championship. It is up to each individual (as well as the board) to decide whether a potential manager's failures outweigh his successes.
I believe O'Driscoll would be a good choice as manager for us, but accept others hold an alternative opinion on him.

I think its a bit unfair to blame Doncaster's relegation on SOD. Dean Saunders took over in the September of that season and had plenty of time to turn things round

Basically, he seems a good man-manager and sound tactician. I would think a comibination of O'Driscoll-Flitcroft would be very solid, with SO'D as tactician and Flicker as motivator. He got a fairly ordinary bunch of players to perform very well at Donny and could do the same with us. I would still prefer Billy Davies on a contract to summer, though, as the best solution to keep our Championship status, but SO'D would do fine. Expect Simon Gillett to be first through the doors, along with Elliott from Brum as part of any deal for Dawson. Could do worse. Good record at Bournemouth, as well as Donny until relegation season, but not so impressive at Preston. O'Driscoll-Flitcroft I would be ok with. Davies-Flitcroft, I would be delirious with.
