Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has proposed a change to the offside rule that would mean attackers are onside if any part of their body is in line with the last outfield defender. Wenger, head of global development at world governing body Fifa, said it would restore an advantage to the attacker that many feel was eroded by the introduction of the video assistant referee (VAR). Players are currently ruled offside if any part of the body, apart from hands and arms, is beyond the last defender. Would be better for the game imo. (Daylight between the players being offside) not a big fan of VAR but a step in the right direction imo. Being trialled at youth level in Italy.
Defences will just play deeper and games will get tighter. There'll be more man to man marking because defences won't have the flag to fall behind. What happens if someone is ahead and flagged offside only to appeal the decision? More delays. Get rid of it altogether or leave well alone.
Carnage, but enjoyable for a little while. Like when we were kids and goal-rakers were the scourge of the earth
Defenders would have to defend without offsides. Would make for better defenders and attackers. However, not so good for flare players. As it would be just defence against attack.
It would be just the same as it is now only the advantage would be with the attacker. I'm all for it. If it means defenders have to defend again instead of relying on the assistant referee to get them out of a hole.
Tennis. When you cleared your lines you wouldn't be able to rush out so you'd have players from both teams in both penalty boxes at all times and non-stop long balls.
Don’t see how this changes anything honestly. Just moves where the “line” is. Will still be tiny margins between onside and offside
They will still be given because of a trailing shoelace. It will just be the shoelace on the trailing leg, not the forward one.
