If Danny was sacked (IF!!) heres a list of managers that are unemployed ( I think) I obviously haven't put Hoddle, Redknapp or Sir Alex. Any thoughts??? Boothroyd, Butcher, Coppell, Curbishley, Billy Davies, Coyle, Burley, Beattie, Adkins, Phil Brown, Di Canio, Dowie, Ince, Hyypia, Dave Jones, Roy Keane, Brian McDermott, Ally McCoist, Stuart McCall, Solskjaer, Rosler, Warnock, Worthington and Zola.
Most of those wouldn't touch us. You'd have to wonder how many would be happy to work with the limitations we have in place too.
Adkins or Worthington would be realistic shouts. Adkins has to rebuild his reputation somewhere after a difficult spell at Reading. I honestly think we need a young up and coming manager in tune with the needs of the modern game though. Alexander at Fleetwood or Ainsworth at Wycombe for instance. Doubt we could afford the compo though. Higgy would jump at the job I reckon....at the risk of ruining another legend
I'd like to see us get a young manager who know's more of the modern game. Or a foreigner with summat to prove
anyone else know why this would be classed as the most ridiculous post on this site? I don't often post on here and comments like this are probably why! Feel free to delete this post then Admin
Keep on posting - don't be put off. This is supposed to be a forum for discussion. I don't rate your post as ridiculous, you're inviting debate, nothing more!
thanks. Yes was just throwing a few names out there to see who we could attract if the axe fell on Danny.
No idea why anyone would find the post ridiculous. Sone of the names are a little fanciful but given the scrutiny Wilson is under seems reasonable to me.
A few of those would be out of reach, yes, but the number of jobs available is very limited and there are a new batch of young managers doing well that limit the opportunities for the more experienced blokes as well. This is all completely hypothetical as I can't see Danny going anywhere soon and the situation surely can't get any worse...but - a new manager coming in would obviously have to be more of the man manager type who can get the best out of the current players but I still reckon we can provide them with a decent budget to strengthen in the Summer. Most jobs that come available involve a team which is down at the bottom with relegation a stronger possibility than survival - we certainly aren't in that bracket now so we should be a more attractive proposition. Terry Butcher didn't fancy us a few years ago because he didn't want a relegation on his CV and we'd have almost certainly gone down had he taken the job and I don't think he was the right fit for us anyway. It's important that we have a strong end to season so that we keep the majority of our season ticket holders, most won't f*ck it off completely but it wouldn't be a massive surprise if 50% of those who renew most years decide not to this time and just see what happens. Question is can the club afford to gamble the medium-term future of the club by keeping the faith with Danny simply because we've "sacked too many managers"... If this form continues to the end of the season we'll more than likely go down. If we limp through to the end of the season picking up these odd lucky wins we might scrape survival by four or five points and then end up sacking Danny anyway. The trouble is he must know that everyone is ridiculing his team selections and tactical approach (if he actually has one) but he doesn't want to back down. The loans need to go back barring Ramage and Pearson - Waring and Kiwomya have been the most pointless loan signings ever when we have young lads of our own who I'm sure can be just as ineffective! I'm sure if Oates had had the playing time that Waring has had, he'd have had at least two or three by now, and I'd just keep playing Jennings instead of Kiwomya. We'll never know what impact the injury to Winnall has had but it has highlighted how reliant we've been on one player. It was Hourihane before him and in his case it's baffling how he's gone from being so good to something of a liability - I wonder if he was expecting to have a move lined up in January that fell apart from some reason? Anyway, digressed a bit there, but time is running out on Wilson and I just want him to at least look like he knows what he's doing or do the honourable thing and let someone else have a go.
It'd be.... Ronnie Branson + Mark Burton, possibly Hecky until the end of the season. If brought in from outside, you're looking at Steve Davis, Craig Hignett, Bobby Hassell, Nicky Eaden, Darren Moore, or Stephen Foster. A former player, another chance to fall out of love (for some) with a club legend/hero. Or, a promising young manager from the lower leagues. Alexander from Fleetwood, someone like that. Problem is, we've done the promoting from within thing before, with some success and some failure. We've appointed ex players, again with some success and failure. And we've appointed a young, up and comer before. The likes of Hill, Flicker and Mellon are doing relatively well aren't they? So there's no guarantees that it'll be better, that it'll be the best choice. It'd be a risk. If you're happy with Branson, Burton and Hecky in charge for the rest of the season, then keep shouting for Danny's head.
But will it be going forward? That budget has been spent (and wasted on sub-standard players that have been released in some cases). There are rumours of players signed by spreadsheet equation. We're once again relying on loans. Is the budget definitely one of the biggest in the league? 'Competitive' was the word most often bandied about. I still think that many of those named would want to spend more than we're able to (Di Canio in particular - not that I'd want him anyway).
Half of those managers in your list are cap-ends; seriously we're much better off with Danny. If they are the possible candidates I would urge Ben and Pat to stick with the manager we have.
