A 3rd minute header from Robbie Williams was enough to settle an entertaining pre season clash in favour of Championship side Barnsley.</p>

But, they didn't have it all their own way as The Shaymen's neat approach play constantly troubled the visitors, particularly in the first half. And, Chris Wilder will take heart after another good work out for his team in which he took the chance to run the rule over a number of trialists in the 2nd half.</p>

Barnsley took a 3rd minute lead when Robbie Williams rose unchallenged to head home a left wing cross after a partially cleared corner. They could have doubled their lead a minute later but Craig Mawson made the first of a number of impressive saves to deny Michael McIndoe.</p>

Lewis Killeen had the first effort at goal for the home side but his right foot shot, after neat play from Shane Smeltz, was well saved. Further efforts from wide players Danny Forrest and Chris Senior followed but they were unable to trouble the visiting keeper.</p>

Mawson made another fine save low to his right to deny Tommy Wright and at the other end a Smeltz header was narrowly off target from Forrest's cross before Martin Foster narrowly missed the target from 25 yards.</p>

The second half saw both sides make numerous changes which unsurprisingly affected the flow of the game.Chris Wilder introduced Neil Trottman, Andy Campbell, David Beresford, Luis Melo and Neil Prince who are attempting to impress the Manager enough to win a contract. </p>

Chances were few and far between although Ryan Sugden did hit the side netting and Mawson pulled off a point blank save to deny Wright for a second time.</p>

Both Managers will take heart, Andy Ritchie's men begin their Championship season next Saturday whilst Chris Wilder has games against FC United of Manchester on Tuesday and Wigan Athletic on Saturday to fine tune and assess his squad ahead of the Conference opener at Oxford on August 12th.</p>

What did you think to today's performance ? Let us know on the official Halifax Town </p><font size="2">
