    It is with disappointment that Barnsley FC can today confirm Valérien Ismaël has left the Club to join Sky Bet Championship side, West Bromwich Albion.

    It is with disappointment that Barnsley FC can today confirm Valérien Ismaël has left the Club to join Sky Bet Championship side, West Bromwich Albion.

    The 20/21 season will live long in the memory of all those with an affinity to the Reds. The Club would like to thank Valérien for his efforts over the last nine months. He and his family will always be welcome at Oakwell.

    The Club would also like to thank supporters, players and staff for their patience during this period. Now, continued progression must be ensured, with the recruitment process for a new head coach already underway.

    All proceeds from the buyout of the contract will be utilised to strengthen the squad ahead of the forthcoming season. A further update will follow in due course.

    No loyalty in this game. We gave a unknown a chance and he leaves before he ever had a proper home crowd. Great season but nothing to shed a tear over when he never got to build a relationship with the fans.

    I knew there was a reason for the pitch being relaid. Perhaps we will be using it this season.

    Seriously though, Thank you former Head Coach you gave us a season to remember even though many of us never had the chance to see your passion in person.

    btw I do not wish you success at the Hawthorns. Hero to Zero and all that.

    That is two lots of compo within a year. The board must be doing something right.

    Sorry a Bayern Munich defender and manager who beat Roma 4-0 with LASK, was an unknown until little old Barnsley gave him a break? Pull the other one.

    You're right about loyalty though, those days are gone. It's about climbing the career ladder now, has been for quite a long time.

    I'm certainly not bitter. I simply didn't enjoy his style of football as a spectacle. That's all.

    Mixed emotions. Big Val the most impressive man manager since Danny Wilson version 1 in my opinion. Seems an amazing man. Incredible season. However I do feel we were a bit of a one trick pony that had started to be found a little by the end of the season. Gutted he’s gone because I loved the guy and always the nerves of whether we’ll appoint another Morais or Spackman, however hand on heart, I feel we gave it a good go in a unique season, just fell short but don’t mind us taking a slightly different direction in our style of play next season.
