CLUB STATEMENT Club News Barnsley Football Club have become aware of discriminatory and abusive posts circulating on social media. Continue reading on the official site...
This is embarrassing. Whoever sorted out this sponsorship deal from our side needs removing from any day to day involvement with the club. It shows a staggering level of incompetence for a club of our standing and our values and also shows that they didn’t do any background checks before associating our club with that company. They cannot be trusted to make any more decisions. This embarrasses us and makes us look amateur and mercenary, and this kind of error of judgement will lose us support and potentially lose our supporters money, which would be unforgivable. When we hear the findings from the club, will they tell us how the deal was done and reassure us that the person who put this in place from our side will no longer be making such decisions?
They need longer than the 2 days they've had to investigate those tweets? Maybe the club and HEX are a suitable match, amateurish throughout.
Totally agree, but you can’t remove people from their role without an investigation, unless they’re football managers. I hope there is a process underway.
It doesn’t even reference the sponsor, to outsiders that could look like our fans have been posting that stuff about our players or to each other.
I fear it may take threats to withdraw backing by other sponsors before anything is done by the club.
If anyone thinks getting into bed with Hex was a mistake now, just wait for what is going to erupt now this is out.
I suppose that is because they have to link the Twitter handles with the sponsorship deals. I can go make a twitter account now called @realrichardhearthex and claim to have brokered the deal whilst abusing people left right and centre it wouldn’t be fair to scrap a sponsorship deal. The club now has to tread carefully.
Because they don't care how it looks. They'd rather alienate the fanbase and piss them off than criticise their sponsor. Our communications are appalling
That's true, but there are ways of phrasing it so it neither references Hex nor implicates Barnsley fans or players, who would usually be the only people Barnsley FC would be likely to investigate.
