Good Friday Clash Against S****horpe Utd - More from the official site... 02-07-2015 11:55 AM
Why on earth play Friday afternoon? Apart from banks and solicitors offices, Barnsley in my 67 plus years has never observed Good Friday as a Bank Holiday. Glass works, pits, sewing factories, shops, all have always worked normally on Good Friday.
That was my argument last Easter ahead of the Blunts match...loads on here moaning that the game should have been on Good Friday, obviously the club's listening to the Rent a Gob Mob again.
The club was founded by Tiverton Preedy largely because the 'rugger types' were playing on Good Friday, and as a Churchman he felt that the anniversary of Christ's crucifixion should be a day of prayer and rest. Times have changed, we have a 24/7 week, and a largely secular society. However I can't understand iwhy Barnsley FC play on a day which was one of the tenets of its formation.
Brilliant decision BFC. Sod all the fans who will be working that day (including my lad who hardly ever misses at home). Good news for those who work Saturdays but I bet they're far outnumbered by those whose employers have never heard of Bank Holidays. Theres a lot of it about in this part of the world Mr Mansford. WTF is wrong with Friday night?
Didn't we play on Good Friday at home when we got promoted to Prem? Evening kick off mind, possibly on Sky. West Bromwich I think. Not keen on 3pm myself, but Friday night v fairly local rivals would be ok I reckon.
