HONOURING THE GREAT BARRY MURPHY Club News Before our most recent fixture, we paid tribute to a club legend in the most fitting manner. Continue reading on the official site...
Had the privilege of meeting him at a Hoyland reds awards evening. Where he presented and recieved awards. A very humble man. His record will never be beaten imo. He definitely deserves the recognition.
Fantastic, a fitting tribute to our record appearance holder. And I agree with Gally, I had the good fortune to meet him once and he really is a lovely bloke.
Always used to enjoy his reviews of the game when I had a seat in the Legends Suite. He nearly always found something positive to say about the game. On the few occasions he didn't, you knew we'd been really, really ***** Fantastic though to listen to.
I went on two of the ground tours he organised to other football clubs when I was a kid (Goodison and Old Trafford for me). You'd get taken to the ground, a tour, meet some of the players and get autographs, then back home. Just a lovely guy. Who i'm not sure realises just how nice a guy he is.
Same here Gally. Living where I do I don't get to many games, but when I do, I take my brother along to the Legends or Premier suites. I've enjoyed Barry's summation of the game before the MoM presentation. I've also shared a few words with him too on the odd occasion, as he mingled around the tables before kickoff.
Great stuff and a big thanks to Spud for all his service and his emotional investment in our club. He's a top man. Well done also to all those involved with the Alumni (great to see the old alumnis on Saturday) thing and the very fitting tribute for Spud and his family. Stirs the emotions. Stuff like this is what makes our Club the best Club in the world.
Definitely a lump in throat, tear in eye moment watching that video. Congratulations, Barry. Thoroughly well deserved.
