JAMAL A DOUBT FOR SOUTHAMPTON Posted on: Wed 19 Sep 2007 REDS winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce is an early doubt for Saturday's clash at Southampton after limping out of last night's draw with Stoke. Jamal was substituted late in the display at the Britannia Stadium but is now a doubt for this weekend's game. Speaking after the game, Reds manager Simon Davey said: "Hopefully it was just cramp but he felt something tighten up. We will have to look at him on Wednesday morning. "Jamal is a confidence player and he is doing really well for us. "We have been after him all summer because we knew what he was capable of as he did is against us so many times last season. We played Southend four times and Jamal murdered us four times - he has played two for us and done it in both games. Long may that continue". http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10309~1115686,00.html
Hope we go with same attitude as last night Slightest glimmer of hope then for the future.
Souza though, fcking hell fire. It'll dawn on folk sooner or later.
Oh and 'Le Creuset' finally puts paid to any sharedealing.

What did Souza do wrong last night then? Two clean sheets in succession since we went to 4-4-2 with him as one of the centre halves, and against some tall and strong strikers yesterday. I wasn't there yesterday, but it seems like the majority of people think he's brilliant, a few people think he's a disaster waiting to happen, and I'm in the middle - think hes very similar to Kay in that hes generally very solid, good in the air, and pretty quick - but has lapses in concentration. Less alcohol though, probably.
I'd like to see us play the same 11 for a few games. Reverting back to 4-4-2, surely that message has got through, no problem with a bit of squad rotation on the wings and up front, but the back 4 and 2 centre midfield positions need stability, not tinkering. witpaulreidwasinspainonothelashwhilstsittinghissuspensionart.
Souza didn't do anything wrong on Saturday OR last night (unless I missed something). First few games, concentration was an issue but looks like he is coming good. End of day, he was a new player in the team, along with 6/7 more, and needed to gel. For me, he can make that place is own.
The fact that he seems to be hailed as the new Messiah.
He scares me to death when he's receiving the ball at his feet. Never looks to have it totally under control and his propensity for the square pass across our box - that'll come a cropper eventually.
Again, last night he had one of his instances when he just allowed the ball to go past him giving them a chance on our goal. Suffers from occasional lapses in concentration which will cost.
Physically he looks like what we've been missing. I just think he needs some work on his game to come up to the demands of the English game. he seems to me to not be quite used to the pace of the game just yet. He did fairly well last night considering who he was up against but we didn't win many first headers.I still fear for us when we come up against the really physical teams. And when all is said and done, after we'd totally dominated for the majority of the game it still came down to a remarkable save by Muller and an even more remarkable miss from Cresswell to get us a point.

He had his problems defending out wide again, McCann ???, When Werling is bombing on surely McCann just drops in at left back, or maybe he doesnt.
That was one of the factors as to why Sousa had to defend out on the left on a few occasions.
Once we get an up and down merchant on the left hand side of midfield we will be sorted.

I think the main thing that stands out with Souza is that he likes to play the ball out from the back, rather than hitting it straight upto front two (Certain Paul Reid!). At times, that may involve going across the back line, which can be risky. Few times this season he's attempted to control the ball down, and play it. I'm not hailing him the messiah, but I'm sure he will be hailed as a good signing come the end of the season.
We were on about Odething last night - playing him game in game out may hinder his developement. I think the same can apply to Souza. At the end of the day most of the new lads are unknown quantities so we just have to trust in Davey's judgement and his staffs ability to develop them.
Mossto being a prime example. I'm not surprised he's not playing at the mo - the lone role against Newcastle had folk criticising him ffs. More than most I'd say he needs time to settle and get used to Barnsley and the English game.

RE: How does he get used to the English game if he's never on the field? nt Introduced gradually. Just cos he's not seen much in the 1st half dozen games doesn't mean that's it for this season.
Anyway, spit or swallow ?

Ode looks like a confidence player, and at times last night he appeared to be kicking himself when things didn't go his way. SD talks highly of him though and reckons he can cut it in this league. The problem with so many new signings, and the majority coming from different countries is deciding when they are ready for first team action. Like you say though, we have to trust SD and the back room staff. Mossto is having another run out in the reserves tonight. Hopefully he can grab another goal.
