Nile Ranger has denied four counts of assault and one of being drunk and disorderly. The 20-year-old London-born player appeared in Newcastle Magistrates' Court today and pleaded not guilty to two counts of common assault, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a separate count of being drunk and disorderly. Ranger is accused of the alleged assaults of two revellers and two police officers outside a bar in the city during the early hours of August 27. He was also appearing on a drunk and disorderly charge on October 30 after allegedly arguing with his girlfriend in the city centre. He will next appear before magistrates on January 13, 2012 to be committed to Newcastle Crown Court for the assault charges and on the same date will be on trial for the drunk and disorderly charge. (Ranger admitted a drink-driving charge in court last week and was £3,300 and banned for 12 months.) The Journal then helpfully provided further details including confirmation of that additional bail condition: District Judge Earl warned the striker to stay out of the city centre (between 9pm and 7am) until he next appears before magistrates on January 13. “I am concerned that what we have at the end of the day are allegations of drunken aggressive behaviour at night,” said District Judge Earl.
