    BARNSLEY will definitely sign Luke Steele next month while a deal to bring Lewin Nyatanga back to Oakwell on a permanent basis could drag on through the summer, according to manager Simon Davey.

    Speaking exclusively to Barnsley World TV, Simon said: "Luke will sign for us on June 21 and will be here permanently for next season.

    "To be honest I am not too sure about Lewin at the moment. He has gone back to Derby County and they have come down now so we might have to wait and see on that one.

    "The deal is still there with Derby but there are ways to get out of it from both sides and at the end of the day it will come down to what the player wants to do.

    "Hopefully we will have more players in and there is more money in the budget this summer to go and recruit. It has to be a bit of a juggle because we have to make sure that we do not spend our budget on the players we have here already.

    "We want to go out and sign better players so we will have to balance what we spend on the squad we have. We want to enhance the squad by bringing in better players not just enhance the bank balance of the ones we already have. That is the balancing act I have this summer.

    "We need to score goals and at this level that costs a lot of money. We will have to see what happens with that this summer. We need to score more goals and that could be from a striker who gets 20 goals or a couple of midfielders who can chip in with ten each. We will see what we can do this summer but we know that we have to improve".

    Mmmh.... as I said the other day

    Nyatanga may be a luxury and not a necessity....... I don't doubt he's got potential and would be good investment but in terms of right here and now I feel if we are to progress money would be better spent on a striker........

    And Lewin has struggle to hold down a place in the side the back end of the season in front of the likes of Foster and Souza.

    I guess his interview on Derby's webside was a give away....... slight worry is that Howard's interview also leaned towards his exit this summer....

    Looking on the bright side we would get £1m+ for Howard. Add to that money saved on Nyatanga deal (e.g. £750k+) we would have sufficient funds available to bring in a quality centre forward. I feel with Howard gone Leon would get his chance to shine, but if Howard stays at the club Leon will no doubt be played out of position to accomodate Howard.

    People are also saying we could not afford the likes of Eastwood, Huckerby etc but think about it, I ain't no mathmatitian (nor can I spell it) but do maths:

    - estimated FA Cup winnings - £1.5m
    - money set aside for Nyatanga deal - £750k
    - estimated fee recieved for Howard - £1.5m
    - other transfer fees recieved (e.g. Mostto etc)- £250k

    TOTAL = £4m

    Okay not all monies will go towards strengthening the squad, but my point was mearly to highlight the fact that I see no reason we can't attract or even afford the likes of a Darren Huckerby, Jon Harley & Ross Wallace.... providing the above happens i.e. Howard sale and Nytanga deal falls through. Essentially trading quality for quality only in positions we need to improve on....

    And before you start I'm not saying Mostto will go, but I would assume there will be some movement and some additional monies will be recieved for players...
