A couple of reserve team games will sort that. Oh wait a minute. This arranging playing behind closed doors games doesn't seem to do anything for us. I was talking to an an Reds Pro last week. Who incidentally, worked his way up from Academy to first team via reserves, he was adamant that these behind closed door games aren't much good. He said in no way does a player comitt himself and apply himself in these games in the same way that he would do in a competetive Reserve game. He was not implying a lack of professionalism ot bad attitude, its just one of these mental things. I don't think it was a coincidence that when Mark Robins re-introduced the reserves side that we started to get more of the Youth players knocking on the first team door.
Re: A couple of reserve team games will sort that. Oh wait a minute. WellMost pro's didn't commit to playing reserve footall last season tarntyke. If you look, most of barnsley better wins was when they had first year pros and academy players playing. I know Doncaster find them games very helpful and play really good teams in them. In the last international break they played manchester, watford also use them and when you read there boards they think they are good. The problem is a big one for me. Reserve games for champ clubs aren't worth the risk. anyone who went to watch the Nottingham forest game last season would have seen what pro's think of them. I watched a few games last year TT and they are full of u18 players. When you play against Rotherham or york you are playing against COE teams, barnsley u16's would hammer them never mind 1st year pros.
Re: A couple of reserve team games will sort that. Oh wait a minute. There are pros and cons. But I think we made the right decision. Reserve games at this level end up being academy vs academy. And that doesnt help IMO. Expecting them to play 2 games in a week or whatever.. Its ok if you have a big 1st team squad I suppose. But we havent. And, it costs money to compete in it. We havent got any remember
Re: A couple of reserve team games will sort that. Oh wait a minute. Hope the youngsters find their early season form again soon. I'd hate to see them drop off after such a strong start.
Re: A couple of reserve team games will sort that. Oh wait a minute. They miss Danny Rose DB3K. But which club wouldn't miss a 20 goals a season striker that can hold the ball up and pass the ball well.
if cost is the sole reason fair enough,However We have fringe players and players coming back from injury who are clearly not getting the competetive games under their belt before returning to first team action. Even with our small squad I'm sure we could put a reserve team out with at least half of them not being Academy players.
Are their more 'risks' in a reserve game than any other.. BTW H/T I've read recently that Donny are looking to have a reserve team for next season.
