Can get the majority of the first team in, keep them ticking over during the break

Yes & risk injuries ! not for me , give the fringe players like Cole , Benson & Odour some game time & match fitness by all means but I do not want to take any risks with our key players

I wouldn't waste a space in the u23s on Benson. Give someone from the academy who actually wants to put an ounce of effort in a chance

Surprised to see no first team players. Some of them are really low on game time so could have done with a run out.

It’s all very commendable putting the U23’s on the main pitch from time to time but why do they have such stupid kick off times?!? How many folk can actually get on a Tuesday afternoon??

I don't know why we signed him, he'll never make it as a footballer when he's only available for 50% of matches. Apparently he can only play in Holmes games

Absolutely nothing to do with the clubs I’m afraid. It’s league policy. The early afternoon kick offs. And I think it’s something like three or four of your home games must be played on the stadium pitch. There’ll be some ‘science’ behind it no doubt.

I have to say, it’s much easier and cost effective for clubs though, to hold 23s games during the daytime. Saves on energy and you’re guaranteed it’s fully staffed etc.

Sad for fans who once used to attend such ‘reserve’ fixtures at 7pm midweek. I saw Fumaca score from 35 yards out in such a game many moons ago.

    Thanks for the reply Whitey.

I have noticed before pretty much all the academy matches between professional sides are late morning/ afternoon so assumed it came from above rather than the club itself.

I used to enjoy going to the occasional reserve team game as a kid. Oakwell under the lights was always special no matter who was playing. Surely it’d be great for the young lads to play in front of a decent crowd in the actual stadium rather than on a more or less open field in front of a few mums and dads.

Not to worry. I’m sure them crusty’s in suits who’ve never kicked a ball in their life know best……….
