Quick comparison between O'Grady and Grabban, one might go for £500k, the other had a £3m offer accepted for him. Both mainly spent their careers in the lower leagues. O'Grady (Grabban) Position - Striker (Striker) Club - Barnsley (Bournemouth) Signed for - £350k (£300k) Age - 28 (26) Career Goals 84 (70) Career GPG - 0.24 (0.29) Season Goals (excluding penalties) - 11 (15) Season Appearances 43 (46) % of team's goals last season 34 (33) They have similar records, maybe Grabban slightly edges it but he was playing in a far better team last season who scored 23 more goals than us and no doubt created a lot more chances. Grabban is also 2 years younger and plays at a higher division club so they can hold out for more money. However, I'm really struggling to see how one is worth £3m and the other a sixth of that figure.
Grabban has 3 years left 9 his contract, O'grady has 1. That's the main difference anyway. The other being he plays for a better team and scored more goals last season. We'll get no more than £1 million for O'Grady if we're lucky. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
But the fact is, he can move for nothing next summer and talk to other clubs earlier than that. I know what you're saying, but I can't say that O'Grady is worth much more personally, looking at it from a business point of view rather than a reds fan. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Didn't the club say relegation has cost us about £5m? So I'm presuming promotion would get us the same figure (probably more as we'd get bigger attendances at the top of the league), O'Grady could easily score 20+ goals in that division which would be enhance our chances of going up vastly. O'Grady is potentially worth nearer £5m to us.
This tells us a lot about the Club's ambition and chances of promotion next season. Both exceptionally poor.
Sadly I think the £5 million will be made up from tightening our belt further and more cost cutting exercises rather than selling a few players. And even if we get a half decent fee for O'Grady, we still have to replace him. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Maybe so, but he's starting to look like a journeyman with every passing transfer. I'm not so sure how much those guys attract fee wise - as he'll likely be off first chance he gets. Personally, I think he should do himself a favour and stay - maybe even sign an extended deal.
You forgot the most important statistic - one plays for a club with ambition and a determination to get the best deal possible for one of their assets. The other is Chris O'Grady.
Grabban is a way better striker than o Grady and in my opinion worth a lot more money quicker ,scores more goals, better in the air and someone is trying to say they are similar.
