O'GRADY EYES BARNSLEY SWITCH Last Updated: Wednesday 3 April 18:00:00 On-loan Barnsley striker Chris O'Grady has refused to rule out a permanent switch to Oakwell in the summer. O'Grady, 27, is currently on loan at Barnsley from npower Championship relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the season. But the former Leicester man says he will let his football do the talking and the rest will take care of itself. "I'll definitely assess it at the end of the season, but the infrastructure in the club, well it can't get any better," he told The Star. "The players couldn't be any more accommodating and the manager (David Flitcroft) is just perfect for me. I'm enjoying it and I'm enjoying my football, which is the most important thing. "You want to prove that you're a better player than your club believes you are. If I'm not regarded as an important player for the team then you've just got to prove people wrong." He added: "But if I perform then that [a new deal] will take care of itself."
I think he's still contracted at Wednesday MK. Think I read ot on here somewhere and someone suggested he'd cost about £400k for a permanent switch.
Think that was the figure branded about when he was a bit part player coming here unwanted. With his goals/performances with us i'm sure the fee will be a fair bit higher now and he'd have caught the eye of other teams.
According to Wiki,he signed a 3yr deal in Aug 2011...so still a year to run on his deal at the start of next season.
I've got a sneaky suspicion that the loan was agreed with a fee at the time for a switch if the move worked out for both parties. I reckon the deal is already on the table and the price is known and agreed. Just a feeling.
I hope that's not the case for our sake. From what he's said there it seems to be working for him here so maybe he'll want to stay. Either way, I want COG to remain a red.
