My youngest daughter has decided (probably on a whim), that she wants to come to the game tomorrow. I have STs for me, my nephew, and my eldest. Realising that it might be more expensive for us to pay on the gate for the additional child's ticket, I rang the club, to see what the situation is. I have just been told that I cannot buy a child's ticket at the turnstile AT ALL on the day of the game, and have to go to the ticket office no less than one and a half hours before kick off. So I then asked (as I don't live in Barnsley), if I asked someone to pop down and buy me a ticket today, would they sell just 1 child's ticket? I've been told that the only way they will do that is for the person picking up the ticket, to submit my Season Ticket details. I kind of understand the second bit, that they want to know an adult is accompanying a child, but why do they have to make it so hard? They should be encouraging kids at every opportunity. What is so wrong with having a pay on the day option? Especially for kids, who if they're anything like mine can't decide what they're into this week. Unless I've got my facts wrong (in which case I apologise unreservedly to BFC - but I'm only reporting the conversation I've just had), we are operating a system tomorrow where kids from Middlesboro can pay on the gate, yet kids can't get in the Barnsley end. Just bizzarre.
If only they could check your details, maybe by ringing you back on the phone number they have on file, thus ensuring they know it's you and so your friend can pick a ticket up no problem. This though would mean taking each case on its merits and defying policy and procedure. Which is a hanging offence I think.
I think they should go for an out and out ban on kids, women, and anyone over 60 who can't sprint to the top of the East Upper in less than 30 seconds. That should do it. Stronger together.
Thanks Deetee. My Sis in Law is going ... so if you see someone in the box office having a barney, that'll be her!!
Support the club through and through but as per usual the administration side is retarded! Didn't they mention Health and Safety............?
To be fair, they probably could have....but why is it so difficult for the club just to have a cash turnstile to pay on the day? It saves a queue at the box office. I just don't get this separate kids/ adults/ ST holders turnstiles. It really should not be so difficult. What will happen tomorrow when folks roll up with kids, no tickets & find out that instead of the pre match price of £7, they are going to have to pay adult turnstile prices? Where is the justification in that?
Surely reading the website, discounted ticket prices for 5-11 years, students are only available up to 1.30pm, after which prices revert to the standard junior price. So to get the £7 ticket price it is before 1.30pm after which it is £18 on the gate
£18 on the gate for an 8 yr old who has just decided that they might like to see what football is about?? WHY??? What is so hard for the club between 1.30pm and 3pm to allow pay on the gate? Surely more staff hours are taken up at the ticket office with pre sales, than on a turnstile? £18?? Really?? I know all about the benefits of Season Tickets etc etc, (which is why my daughter has one), but we are hardly encouraging the floating fan are we? Why are we making it so difficult for our own fans to bring occasional visitors to the stadium?
Re: Wouldn't... Of course, you're quite right. After I've done that she can go to derby with her Dad, to watch Wednesday.
The club is absolutely pathetic at this type of thing. They'll trot out some feeble excuse about admin, health & safety or that if you become a member or go down 2 hours before kick-off etc you can get a reduced rate but it just doesn't wash. When i was a young lad just about everyone paid on the gate and there was a turn-style for kids, OAP's and adults. Why is it so different now? They just can't be arsed with any good will towards the fans any more.
The thing is, this afternoon I realised that unless my sis in law could get me a ticket (cos I couldn't get down to the club), it would be easier just to tell my daughter that she can't go. So that would have been a real success.
If they can charge £18 on the gate why can't they charge £7 on the gate for a kid - it's garbage. You'll just get labelled a "moaner" but the club really has gone downhill in its relationship with the fans in recent seasons. No wonder there's so much apathy about the place. It seems to me that they'll do the bare minimum and aren't too bothered if they miss out on a few floating fans every game. Some jobsworth will have worked out some statistic that says they'll save money by overcharging the few that do turn up.
Earlier this evening we told my 4 year old lad he cant come to match tomorrow with all of us. Crying lad on a Friday night. Cheers BFC. still no answers regarding why some under 5's have tickets. Read notes about Rowing meeting, when he quoted H&S didn't anyine ask why some under 5's are allowed in? Therefore H&S is irrelevant! At least it sounds like the complimentary drink was nice!
BFC have a marvellous ability to over complicate and legislate out of the system any potential for flexibility. What is the rationale that states a ticket at 1.29pm is £7 and at 1.31pm is £18 ? Why is it impossible to have kids pay £7 through a concessions turnstyle on the day ? Policy and procedure matters more than getting people in the ground.
