...the Supporters Trust should be all over the situation we find ourselves in right now, arranging meetings with supporters to gather the interest in developing a business plan to take Mr Cryne up on his offer to give the club to the supporters. This is the chance.
Who's actually running the ST? I know some of the lads involved but it really needs a strong figurehead to spearhead it, and I don't see anyone obvious at present.
This offer to give the club to the fans... Didn't he also say he wanted his son to join the board and, eventually, become his successor? Those two scenarios are incompatible aren't they? So which is it, does he intend to begin a dynasty or does he intend to give the club to a fans' collective?
I think they were two different things. He said that he would, if it was viable, give the club to a supporters consortium. But the putting James on the board felt as though him trying to secure it's future in case he couldn't sell it. I think.
Re: I nominate Jay! Nice idea! But my thoughts are that unless it could fund £1.5mill plus a season then it's a no go, that's on top of current income. If it could be done I'd love it. There's passionate and talented folk in our town. I know the figures quoted are scary! Could it be done? I'm not sure unless fans would take a massive backwards step in order to move forward?!?
Re: I nominate Jay! We couldn't fund £1.5 million a year. It'd just mean we wouldn't have to waste £1.5 million a year instead of *****ing it up the wall.
Willing to be convinced, and I'd love to see the business plan for it. I just can't see it. Not with the expectations of our fans. Not outside of non league anyway Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Expectations of the fans? Expecting to challenge in a division where we are in the top 6 biggest teams? Not that demanding is it? Especially when an experienced manager was sacked for those same self reasons.
Yeah. Maybe I wasn't clear. My point was our budget would likely get cut massively. I suspect the romance of fan ownership would disappear very quickly, as we found ourselves dropping through the leagues Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't believe this town and fans has the ability to run our football club. I would love to be proved wrong but many of the fan ownership models aren't fully built on the collective fan ownership, they usually have a key leadership / funding team and in turn supported by fans, take Pompey for example. The commitment is much more than putting an extra 500 quid in a year, just look at the fan backlash on ticket prices even today. Having said that why does Cryne see this as an all or nothing position. Does that tell us something? Why can't he be a minority shareholder, continue to fund in part the club he clearly loves and have a more diverse board of directors to help steer the ship?
You're right RE Pompey. However, unless it's discussed and the Trust bring the supporters together to at least discuss it (and push for access to the books to really understand what's going on) then there'll always be a sense of 'what if' IMHO. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
I agree, but what is the role of the Trust? I'm not sure I fully understand what it does or who it represents. I'm not being critical I just don't know.
I think it's a very fair point & if I'm honest, I don't think they do either. However, they're the single biggest organisation that represents BFC fans and have stated aims of shareholdings in BFC. They absolutely should be pushing to understand viability of Mr Cryne's offer. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Dys, without some form of collateral no fans group will be able to do this. Banks need security to release any sort of finance. The club could not be run as it stands I think currently without the fans agreeing to guarantee some form of borrowing - loan/overdraft etc The club itself has no assets other than the players contracts and sale value. It is merely a tenant of OCA. (as I understand it) Not happening in my opinion.
