I really do think Hayes will do very very well in the higher league, and also I feel a good few of our present squad will be more suited to the championship class of football. That said I believe we need a couple perhaps three new players to lend strength to the squad, midfield is one area now without doubt. But I think Kay can go forward to that and become a kind of Redfearnesque ball winner.I have perhaps unfairly hit on the relegated player 'Foster@ from crewe, but he fills a hole in the back 4 , and after all Dario Gradi is well known for producing good players, lets hope he is one. There is talk that Flinders was to leave in summer, and that was said long before seasons end, therefore a back up keeper may be needed....there ya see, I can do it...... but it hurtses it burnses nasty hobbitses.

    Kay is not a midfielder.

    Sorry.

Another winger, ball winning midfielder, Striker, Centre Half and A.Nother.

    We'll be sorted.

    But played...

...the past 3/4 years as a defender.

    Your point is?

but could be trained to fill the role.I am looking at resources here, and this could be a way of "cutting the cloth" as it were.We need some extra players without doubt, but we also need the best for our needs, and if duplication can be avoided then we get better value.

    Anthony Kay is a Defender.

IMHO he will now never be a midfielder. I think he'd do ok, but his best position is defence now.

We need another midfielder, so with McPhail going (highest earner) our wage bill should be ok to sign someone with a bit of experience.

Better players than McPhail are probably available for less wages.

    Kay+ Midfield = ???

Not too good to be honest.

We need a much more dependable, resulote ball winner along side Howard. Some experience.

    I'ld rather put Reid there.

the key for me is bringing the right players in who will

keep the excellent team spirit our lads have.

thats the understatement of the year....and I am not knocking you here..

the spirit the team had this last season is hat got us to the championship, it simply has to be preserved.Andy Richie may have made some mystifying selections and substitutions to some of us at times, but he has certainly instilled spine and spirit to the Reds which is what we fans want......good grief what wrong wi mi another positive...oh no no no NOOOOOOO nurse nurse HELPPPPP

absolutely - in some respects we could benefit from McPhail leaving as I imagine he was on a fair whack more than the rest of the team.

it is imperative that we get lads in who gel with the team and are fighters like devaney/howard/kay etc

that's why i am so bitterly disappointed we haven't managed to get chopra because he fits all of these and is a top forward. but if ridsdale is offering a huge slice of cash more to play for cardiff then that dictates our control over the situation and sadly we end up missing out. ridsdales strategy of blase risk taking is just sheer stupidity in my opinion.

I think Kay in midfield would give us 10 goals minimum from that position.
