Thought the Aussies started okay with England bowling quite well.

The Aussies got it to about 5 runs a over after about 5 overs but England controlled it and got the run rate down to about 2.9 until Haddin/ Johnson partnership.

At 70/1 I think England would have been happy to end the day 270/8 but at hundred and odd for five England would have maybe expected to have them bowled out for maybe 250/260.

I think it showed that you shouldn't get overly worried about friendly matches like some did in the recent football matches. I watched two out of the three warm up matches and England didn't perform anything like yesterday.

Let's hope this time tomorrow we are looking at another good day with England batting at a nice rate with KP Bell and root to come and up the rate and put England in a great position.

Their bowlers have been their major weekness , if we can get 500 we won't need to bat again

I think they have some good bowlers. The Barmy army could be massive for England especially Johnson. If they can get in side his head then he could be out of it.

I also think its important that England don't lose any wickets in the first spell of any of their bowlers. Get in, second spell start to score more freely. 20 /25 overs gone then it will get easier. And then our middle order from KP to prior could take them apart in my opinion.

Their bowlers are good its their top order batting that is the problem, yet again its the lower order making a fight of it.

England will get 400 plus on this wicket, just hope the weather stays good for the 4 days then I can see nothing other than an England victory

Can only start to judge this test after England have completed their first innings at the crease.

They haven't taken 20 wickets against us too many times recently, or anyone for that matter

Just think that shows how weak they are mate, cant take 20 wickets and cant bat at the top of the order.. makes up for all those beatings they handed out to us to see them in this state!! Enjoy it while it lasts though

    How about after day 2

I dont think that it went very well.

One or two of the comments above might have been a bit premature

Re: How about after day 2

Hope I'm wrong but for me that innings seemed to show that we haven't learnt a lot over the last few seasons where we have papered over the cracks in the batting because one ore two batsmen have 'got them out of it' . We haven't had a good score in one innings produced by all the batsmen doing their bit for ages and you can't stop at the top in test cricket for long like that

The wisest thing said in this thread. You just can't tell when only the 1st day is done and only 1 team have batted.

Praying for rain now. Oh dear England. They can still win the series though, we have a habit of being ***** in the 1st test.

We still havent lost this yet - We do have batsmen capable of a big innings so if 2 of Cooke Bell and Trott or Root can get big 100's we can still save or even win it depending on how big a total the Aussies get tonight

We haven't and we do. I wouldn't be putting any of my hard earned on an England win in this test now though.

Ahhh, a good old England batting collapse.

Credit to Johnson, though. Some rip snorting deliveries.

I've watched pretty much every ball of this test and I still insist that it's a flat pitch. It definitely quickened up a bit yesterday but there was no reason for us to be out for anywhere near that score. Australia's first innings was still well under par in my opinion. The only positive is that we can not possibly have as bad a session as that again!!

Problem for me Wellsie is that the England bowlers have comeout and said they are feeling it after both days. At the end yesterday Broad bowled at 78MPH. Thats bad and a big problem with the kookaburra getting soft and the Aussies on the attack it could get ugly.

Yeah they are going to be knackered today. Tough work on the first day and they earned their break, unfortunately the batsmen let them down big time last night.
