Right I don't post often at all on here however I am going to try and put my point of view across without getting shot down in flames, about tonight's performance. > First of all people need to wake up and smell the gravy, 2 week ago we was the best thing since sliced bread now were shocking and were going down. That's football you have good days and bad days and yes tonight wasn't great and we lost but hopefully we learn and move on, and turn the bad performances into good ones. Now onto the game > Personally our two centre backs got bullied all over all game by the 2 Peterborough strikers every ball they won caused us problems all night. Foster should have been at the back however obviously injured maybe things would have been different who knows. > Cranie should have been were hassle was, however with lack of depth and no known centre back in the squad for tonight's game we had to switch stuff round which didn't as such work. Cranie would have controlled the midfield a lot better as per previous games. > Another main issue with tonight, a specially the first half, no one in midfield wanted to take control make the tackle, get the ball on the deck and run with it push Peterborough back, however we choose to play it squareand more a less lose it or not create the chance and go back, lack of width maybe you could say, or energy in the middle etc done may have made the better impact from the start. > The diamond didn't work tonight at all, wrong selection as stated above, hassle wasn't controlling the midfield like cranie would have done which caused dawson to come inside to help out, this led to us been exposed down one side and boyd etc was able to exploit it. However when perkins and done came on it changed the game a little, perkins closing down running with the ball done giving us the option down one side while cywka was able to come into the middle and try to create chances at the front of the diamond which mellis should have done in the first half. > As for upfront well nothing much to say apart from Davies's great strike in the first half which hit the cross bar, which would have changed the game if it did go in. But really strikers cannot be effective if your not getting the ball to them. > Stones got a footballing lesson tonight, however hopefully he will learn and get better from it, yes you could argue well he's in the 1st team but really he's still very young and inexperienced at this level and tonight will be a good learning curve for him am sure. Overall, yes we wasn't very good tonight passing wasn't accurate and slow at times, we put our self under pressure were we really could have played the easy ball. Peterborough came with a game plan tonight and it worked simple as that. I may have picked a lot of negatives here, but what I am trying to put across is everyone as a bad day, and today was ours. Keep the faith and get behind them, this season as only just started. Hope i don't get flamed, but thats that. Thanks Daniel
Great post. Constructive analysis and a good dose of perspective. Please call again. 'twas a pleasure to see some sense.
No ET, we were NOT world beaters (or the best thing since sliced bread as you put it) when we beat Birmingham. That was a ridiculous and somewhat two faced over reaction from a large section of our fans, and some of these 'fans' have indeed changed their minds again aftert tonight. The Birmingham win was superb of course, but I think a lot of us knew the hard work didnt end there and it was going to be vital how we reacted in these two home games. We havent done that well in them have we, lets be honest.
Correct, we havn't reacted in the two last home games like you would have hoped to have. But as you say people went onto cloud nine with the 5-0 hammering we handed out much like my self however some people really need to understand that this league is crazy at times and teams have good days and bad days, today was our bad day hopefully people get behind them and we move on to better performances.
In fairness to that ET (hope you dont mind being called that by the way lol), Birmingham did have a nightmare at home to us and maybe tonight was our version of that nightmare. Yes we do all have brilliant and shocking days/nights. I hoped for 4 points from these two home games this week but the performances were also important for me, and even if we'd won tonight its been admitted that we were hopeless all over the pitch.
True yes, to be honest i really thought we could have had 4 to 6 points out of the last two games too but it wasn't to be.
Sorry very poor tonight, the DNA was sadly lacking. We tried to play pass and move, but left the move bit back in the changing room. The players seemed to be going through the motions. Not really lack of effort, but not the effort which is required in this league, particularly if you have not got the most gifted squad, but upwards and onwards. No doubt 23000 on Saturday will have the desired effect.
