My view of the season so far....... EARLY SEASON: we kept it simple and played an attacking 4-4-2 formation. We had a great work ethic and unlike previous seasons players worked together and backed each other up e.g. tackled in pairs one player made tackle, with the second player sweeping up and playing the ball. Passing was much improved and team morale was high. 1. The Goalkeeper (Muller) commanded his area well, and set up play well i.e. quick throws, kicks 2. The fullbacks (Kozluk, Werling and later Foster) loved to get forward and cross in kller balls. 3. Centre Halves (Souza & Nyatanga) kept it simple and worked for each other e.g. one winning first tackle/header with the other backing up. They took no risks and if unsure cleared there lines 4. The midfield worked hard, tackled hard, and played the ball wide to wingers. Howard was able to get forwrad as he was operating in a box-to-box role and he picked up lose balls on edge of the area. 5. The wingers with there electric pace and ran the opposing fullbacks ragged. 6. The forwards were weak link in the team not getting into key positions and finishing chances. PRESENT: the simplistic approach from early season has is no more and SD is constantly trying new formations. The team have struggled to adapt and this has not been helped by constant changes in team selections. As for team play, simple short passing has been replaced by a more direct stratergy that does not work. The players are taking risks and often making poor decisions. The workrate and teamwork ethic seems to have dissapeared alltogether and there is to much individual play. As for the captaincy, sorry Bri but the job aint for you son. Bri is a great player but since becoming captain his form has dipped. I feel he is struggling to handle the responsibility and far to often he can be seen screaming at his team-mates. Rather than operating in box-to-box role and following up on loose balls outside the area, he going left-to-right and backwards trying to be in to many places at once. For me there is only one man for the captains band Stephen Foster, leads by example! As for the others......... 1. Goalkeeper has been comanding area as they had in early season (Muller included) 2. Fullbacks (hassell, van homeot and Tininho) don't get forward enough as they did early season and aren't getting crosses into the box. 3. Centre halves no longer working as a partership, great as individuals but no backing each other up. 4. Midfield engine is no more, trying to do to much on there own and in the end has burnt out. 5. Wingers haven't had the supply from midfield/fullbacks that they had early season. 6. Forwards much improved, however, the quality crosses/supply of early season have dried up. My advice to SD, play it simple and stick to what were good at simple 4-4-2. Thats it! The problem presently isn't just that fact that we aren't winning but also we aren't getting performances. Come on Mr Davey sort em out. My team vs WBA Warner Foster(c), Nyatnaga, Souza, Kozluk, JCR, De Silva, Leon, Devaney Ferenczi, Macken Subs: Letheren, Hassell, Howard, Nardiello, Odejayi Mid-way through 2nd half bring on Howard for Devaney & Nardiello for Ferenczi
Warner Hassell Foster Nyatanga Kozluk JCR De Silva Leon Devaney Ferenczi Macken Subs: Letheren, Souza, Howard, Nardiello, Mostto I'd put Howard and Souza on bench, both been off form lately and after their little 'scrap'. Nardiello not fully match fit so he could do with a couple of reserve games before he starts. Wouldn't mind seeing Mostto alongside Macken.
Davey will not in a million years drop howard he'll wait until hes suspended and see how the team fares without him
Nards needs a couple of games in the reserves imho. I cant see Davey dropping Howard but it is the right decision.
....................................Warner........................................... .............Hassell...........Foster.......Nyatanga............Kozluk..... ............JCR.................Anderson......Leon..............Devaney... ..................................Macken.....Christensen....................... Subs: Letherhen Souza Howard Ferenczi Togwell
The only away game Howard missed was when he was suspended at Ipswich. Togwell came in alongside De Silva and we got a very good point with none conceded. The four that played in the middle yesterday are undoubtably the most talented but you have to get the ball first to play. That lineup may be ok at home but it's too lightweight away.
Same team as V Coventry With maybe Koz or Hassell in for Souza and Ferenczi in for Nardy.
No need for an over-reaction. Bad day at the office Saturday, that XI he put out is good enough for this league.
