Is he injured or just not up to it? Didn't seem a signing that would take time to get near the first team. Expected him to be in and around the starting 11 but he isnt even getting on the bench.

The invisible man. We've had a few of them signings over the years.

He can't be as slick as we thought he might be.

Someone has to be 5th choice striker.

He's signed a 3 year contract, there's no need to rush him into the team when the 4 strikers ahead of him are all performing.

Duff alluded to him being injured in his interview yesterday.
He’s only been involved with the u21s though recently.
    Strange one…..

Exactly. You’d expect the loan signings to improve the match day squad, while Cole and Norwood are clear first choices. So, Shaw misses out.

What made you think he would be in and around the starting 11? I thought he would struggle 12 spl games 0 goals.

Wouldn't expect him to be in the starting 11 but at least get a sniff at the matchday squad. Otherwise why sign him? Is it another George Miller/Jordan Green? I'm sure every signing is made with the best intentions, but sometimes i think the collateral could be used for something like a couple of shipping containers (10 grand each) for the fan zone: a longlasting investment that benefits the fans now and for the future. We must spend a good few thousand on players who we just accept aren't in the matchday squad week on week (see also: Obi Oulare; Aaron Leya Iseka). Just my thoughts :)

I think oulare and isseka were supposed to be big players for us. One was deemed the experienced player people clamour for on here. But in reality I think conman was just sold a few duffs who couldn't be arsed. Both on decent wages that were probably still contributing to now. I doubt shaws on anywhere near them.
I'm not sure why we signed Shaw his stats weren't great.

I agree, Conway took a punt and quelle surprise it nosedived. As for Shaw, time will tell. Hopefully he is effective for us and gets his chance. Take your point on wages but when you spread them over 2-3 years it adds up (not Shaw specifically but any signing that we have made that plays less than 20 games for us in that time), that money could be better spent arguably.

We sign players like this because we can't afford other teams to sign them and them turn out to be good. It's the model we've used since 2014. Admittedly we sign more 5hite than good and I hate it.

but that’s the gamble, no team in the world buys players that always work out, some have better rates of success than others but every team has signings that don’t pan out. You can do the best scouting/research/background checks in the world but there’s always that risk that for some reason they won’t settle, won’t have the right attitude, won’t be good enough etc

You’ve got to be in it to win it, it’s like buying a pack of football stickers, you’ve got to buy the pack to have a chance of getting stickers you need, but you’ll inevitably get some swaps along the way

I’m not saying Shaw is a flop btw, he could just need time, look at Anderson, had a shaky first season, but his potential came through, he’s now a defender we could never afford to buy. We’ve had lots of players like that over the years, more so since the spreadsheet system started imo, I’d also say our rate of success with buying potential is better than most, ignoring the Conway ‘let’s play football manager with Barnsley’ era obviously

Tedic wasn’t ready at the start.
Duff needed him to toughen up, which he did
    Now he’s ready

Yeh listen, don't get me wrong.. at the end of the day (apologies, I'm playing football manager :D). I think it's this notion that we're always skint, but then some players are just wastemen and an absolute drain on resources. I think the club has taken great strides in its fan engagement, the appointment of Duff, and in the transfer market this season. Some great additions. I take your point though.

But if i was handed the reigns, the first thing I'd do is build on that fan engagement and buy 5 shipping containers and build one of these: https://www.bristolworld.com/busine...ten-shipyard-to-roaring-urban-village-3370487

'Oakwell Wharf' (just off Grove Street). No more broken down vans, take the pressure off Gally and Loko. A permanent fixture for fans to mingle, come rain or shine. Would cost about 50k. Just under the cost of a player who never plays on a grand a week. Then add in the cost of local suppliers/staff to man or woman it: another 50k (just under the cost of said player's second year of under 23/out-on-loan action. Maybe I should give Khaled a bell :)

Ps nice nod to Panini in your summation :)

There'd be no chicken in Oakwell Wharf. It'd be chick pea and spinach flatbread, or a tofu balti panini, take yer pick :D

We'd have a 'save the animals' stall with Toby manning it. Or should that be dogging it...
