Pretty much every event I've watched has been poorly attended the main stadium today was like a Donny match why is this do we think?

I'd guess that locals are put off due to the price. I've no evidence of this and haven't seen the prices or anything it's just a guess. Other countries maybe not attending due to zika?

You're right though, the events look like training sessions with hardly anybody there

I actually forgot about the virus to think it all cost in the region of 9 billion quid it'll be a struggle to get that back

Pure guesswork on my part, as I'm not particularly clued up on the Olympics..

The majority of the locals are relatively poor and dont have the disposable income to attend the events. Those who can afford the tickets will probably show up for the 'main' events in track and field.

The politics around the event being held so soon after the World Cup in areas that feel investment was needed elsewhere has tainted the Olympics and put Brazilians off attending.

Only speculating here... but I've heard it suggested that a lot of the sports are of little interest to the Brazilians, who are possibly more loyal to traditional south American sports. Where as Brits would pay to watch almost anything four years ago due to the novelty of having the Olympics, possibly other countires dont have that appetite for general sports. We have almost every sport known to man both played and supported in the UK. In Brazil and a lot of other countries, a lot of sports are of no interest.

Brazil is expensive and difficult to get to. Throw in the Zika virus concerns and the amount of people travelling over to watch will be limited.
