Not just in the squad, I bet he will start. No Crouch, so who else are we gonna bang the ball forward to? (N)

    Here

<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="629" border="0"><tbody><tr><td colspan="3"><div class="mxb"><div class="sh">Heskey recalled to England squad </div></div></td></tr><tr><td style="width: 416px" valign="top"><font size="2">England coach Steve McClaren has called Wigan forward Emile Heskey into his squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia.

The Wigan striker won the last of his 43 caps against France at Euro 2004 but McClaren saw the 29-year-old in action at Newcastle on Saturday. </p>

    More to follow. </p></font></td></tr></tbody></table>

Wonder what it was that impressed him with that display

I watched the highlights this morning and I can't remember at any point thinking "Heskey had a good game." So I scanned the BBC's reasonably in-depth report of the game and the only mention of Heskey's name was ". . . with Emile Heskey booked for his protests . . ."

Just shows how easy it is to miss stuff when you're not England manager.

    All football managers are barmy

Who else but a football manager would replace a forward with a midfield player when their team is 2-0 down! They're all loony tunes.

    Not many options though

Rooney Crouch both out and who else is there Andy Johnson, David Nugent, - we are somewhat short of international standard strikers. I'd rather start with Heskey than some of the other names bandied around
