Listening to the radio the other day. Manic Monday came on by the Bangles. One of the singers of that Band said they thought Kate's version was better. So just listened. I chose the version she did during lockdown. Great version, possibly only imo of course. Barnsley lass for those not aware. https://www.google.com/search?q=kat...ate=ive&vld=cid:e3086efd,vid:WAlslN90CWw,st:0
Never really followed folk music T & A. That's not to say its crap or owt. But a beautiful voice wins me over in any Genre. I'd struggle with country and western mind as opposed to country.
I’m no fan of country either but agree about the good voice thing. In John Peels latter years he got me into Laura Cantrell and she has got to be up there with Karen Carpenter etc
I like certain elements of country mate. (But certainly not country and western yee ha stuff) The country channel when it was around had some great stuff. As for the Carpenters you wouldnt find a bigger fan than me. Greatest voice that ever lived imho. I put most of the stuff they sang in the pop genre though. (Eg Jambalaya aaargh one of the most horrible country songs ever lol. )
I agree with you about a beautiful voice. One of the best in my opinion was Christine McVie. I could listen to her all day.
I'll go one further mate as we seem to have similar tastes. Traditional Jazz. Cleo lane lol. Aaaaaaaaargh. Oh and sorry Traditional rock and roll.
Oh aye P..Cleo lane, Bibitty bob bop bibuty boo dooby doop....and thet say the kids today are crazy....shocking stuff.
Christine McVie when she was Christine Perfect and singing with Stan Webb's Chicken Shack wasn't bad either. Sorry if I'm showing my age.
