.... Alice Cooper are on the wireless singing about venomous poison. Are there any other types of poison? I actually used to think the lyrics were "feminist poison"
Most poisons are not venomous - only those that are secreted by animals. Made made, or poisons derived from plants would not be considered ‘venomous’, e.g. poison ivy. Great tune though.
Today I learned the difference between venomous and poisonous. Great quiz question that how many poisonous snake are there! According to biologists, the term venomous is applied to organisms that bite (or sting) to inject their toxins, whereas the term poisonous applies to organisms that unload toxins when you eat them. This means that very few snakes are truly poisonous. The vast majority of snake toxins are transferred by bite. One exception is the garter snake (Thamnophis), which is small and harmless in terms of its bite but is toxic to eat because its body absorbs and stores the toxins of its prey (newts and salamanders).
There are approximately 650 species of spider in the UK and none of them are poisonous..... However, all 650 are venomous
And I always thought it was ‘better than poison’. Still, I’m deaf in one ear, so that probably explains a lot....
