I have to admit, i am probably public enemy number one on here, a Lancastrian part timer! I grew up going to a handful of games a year from 1990, whenever anyone would take me, then, like a lot of others, bought a season ticket in 97/98 - 98/99. For one reason or another, my number of visits to Oakwell reduced to one or two a year. I just lost interest. Watching us win 1-0 with an 85th minute penalty at home to Yeovil just didnt excite me and i struggled to justify forking out on travel and ticket. I'm not ashamed to say that i'm doing everything I possibly can to get myself a ticket for Wembley. In fact the cup run has got me excited about the club, and the sport. I will be at Palace tomorrow (living in London now) The point I'm trying to make is, rather than moaning and bitching about any newcomers, surely everybody should be hoping the club are looking at this as an opportunity. At least to get the majority of the 18,000 that were there every week in the Premiership to get back to Oakwell regularly. I hope the club have thought about how to make the most of this in the long term, rather than a short term cash cow.
The thing about these that moan about part timers.. is that i would bet my mortgage on it that they will get a ticket for the very said supporters they are complaining about. Lets get the TOWN behind us and fill the seats
Sadly, the club don't even want the part timers back. Spoke to Don Rowing on Tuesday morning after I'd kicked off as I tried to join the centenaries and got told they'd just changed the rules to the effect that I had to pay £100 up front. His whole tone was one of condescension towards potential new customers for the club. " Theres too many people wanting to join for 3 months and then cancel" said he. Well how do you know that? And even if they did, isn't £24 better than nowt? Personally I was joining for future benefits and not for the semis as I was coming to the Ipswich match anyway, so I didnt join. "You've got to understand that we've suddenly got loads of people wanting tickets for the semis that have never been before"!!!!!!!!!!! to quote Don. No **** Sherlock! Why didnt you think of that before you gave 4 tickets to ST holders then muppet? And, if you make it an almost pleasant experience for people to get tickets you might keep the waiverers and even gain new followers. But no, nevermind Don, we're doing just fine as we are arn't we? 10,000 a week is just plenty thankyou very much, any more is just too much like hard work. Incompetence used to be the rule at BFC, fortunately that is nolonger the case at the football level, its about time the business level caught up.
RE: Sadly, If they dont come up with any ideas to get fans in off the back of this, then its nothing short of a disgrace! For example, the vast majority of season ticket holders will be taking 3 friends to the game. Why not offer incentive to these season ticket holders to bring 3 friends to go to the Charlton and Leicester games? I did pay the £100 for the centenary membership (if it doesnt turn up in the post, i'll be getting very worried), mainly because it gives me a chance to order in the post, saving train fare up from London and needing to book 1 or 2 days off work. Thankfully, the good old overdraft means i can spend the 100 quid! To post a 3 month advance charge for the centenary on the website, then change it the next day because there is a demand just smacks of money grabbing vultures. I find it amazing that Rowing didnt realise that people would join the centenary, just because it gives a better chance to go to the first FA Cup semi in 96 years!
RE: Sadly, So speaks a box office manager reared on big crowds at Scnuthorpe and Doncaster. Come back Chris Paszelt all is forgiven!
RE: Sadly, Cardiff are allowing those who buy a season ticket for next season now, one (or one extra) Semi final ticket.
did anyone get a postal ticket for the Chelsea game? I thought the club just ignored them? Personally I feel the only way to guarantee a ticket is to get it in my hand meself, even if that does mean a 2 hour drive. Royal Mail are one of the few organisationa able to match bfc in incompetence.
RE: Sadly, Living in Wigan and having to work near enough every Saturday in the year, i unfortunately have trouble getting to matches, but me and my son try and get there when we can and because i don't know any or live near any season ticket holders I am struggling for a ticket. I just hope the people who happen to live in Barnsley and get a ticket without seeing us play in years remember we do play every week and not just occasionally.
RE: did anyone get a postal ticket for the Chelsea game? I am worried about getting a ticket in the post, just cannot get myself up to Barnsley on that day. Will send in the post and just attempt to pester them till the ticket comes. That said, my centenary membership hasnt come yet! If that fails, i'll need to try my luck with ebay/touts. Sadly i dont have any mates that are even Barnsley fans, never mind season ticket holders! Got a few mates that are Liverpool fans, was good to remind them of our 2 from 2 record at Anfield!
leythtyke I'm glad more stay away supprorter are looking at us again and are getting interested. The only thing that bothers me is the way the club av done it. All my stubbs count for nothing and I might not get a ticket...yet I keep being told by ppl Iavnt been since Wembley last time/Cardiff/ the seventies but Im going...they might get a ticket and I might not. It jus doesnt seem fair. The club av basically said if ur a st holder..great...if ur st holders mate/family..good for u..if ur an ordinary supprter non st fck off!!
RE: leythtyke And you started so well, then ended up txt spk.. Were you getting angry as you typed that...
RE: leythtyke Cant deny the club could've done better. Maybe 2/3 per ST, then people with 10 stubbs, then people with 5 stubbs, then centenary. Even with that scenario, i think i would still be in the position i am in now, becoming a member of centenary just to give myself a chance, albeit, dont know if its a good chance or not. Probably not given the fact BFC and Royal Mail will both play a part!!!
RE: leythtyke yeh thats what they should have done mate. Feel a bit hard done by myself. I think you will be ok with centenary membership..lucky tou can afford it
