What’s a band or artist you recently discovered, that totally passed you by? I discovered Silver Apples this week, after hearing a song on a film soundtrack. Bit o’ Googling and was amazed to find the album was from 1968. Absolutely phenomenal album, and I’d literally never heard of them until seeing the film. Any other ‘how did I manage to miss this’?
Silver Apples are special aren't they. I'd put them in the same category as CAN for sounding so ridiculously ahead of their time that it's fresh today. Of a similar vein, Moondog is a must listen I wasn't aware of until a couple of years ago. I only got into Good, The Bad and The Queen recently and now rank their 2007 debut as one of my favourites. The Creation don't get talked about as they should as a Who/Kinks contemporary. Not passed me by per se, but having recently got into The Fall, I'm rueing the fact I didn't do 20 years ago as a teenager. Alan Hull.
My son had an album on in the car by "War on Drugs" who I'd not heard of. Turns out they've been around about 20 years. Did a YouTube search on them and found out they're just my type of music.
A mate of mine introduced me to a band called Bilmuri recently and their latest album is absolutely brilliant. Somehow never come across any of their stuff before despite them being right up my street genre wise etc.
Had the Silver Apples album on repeat for the last 3 days. I was lucky enough to see GBATQ in a very small venue in Sheffield. Was incredible.
Not recently, but most of my favourite bands/solo artists passed me by for yrs. Too many to mention tbh. Some I came across on tv in concert. Then hook line and sinkered. The main 2, that I followed up on live. U2 and Cyndi lauper. (And then some support acts.) Greenday I'd never heard of till I caught em live on tv. Circa 2005. Brilliant live in concert. American idiot album takes some beating . But live aid on tv 87. probably got me more and more into live concerts. So a late starter. Ive always loved live theatre. Brought up on it by mi mam and dad. At summer shows.
Saw them support Sleep Token back in December in Leeds (Lead singer came out wearing Leeds shirt booooo) & they were brilliant! Checked out their latest album & yes it’s a banger! The lass playing sax & flute is brilliant too. Great band.
I have rediscovered Shack and listened to earlier stuff that I wasn’t aware of. Slowdive were the ones for me. Discovered them from the comeback album now I love em. last one would be Lilac Time but that’s @Gordon Ottershaw fault. That boys costing me a fortune.
Recent one for me. I was deep down a Spotify rabbit hole when I discovered The Mysterines. Looks like they've supported some fairly major acts, done Tramlines last year and released a couple of albums to critical acclaim. Got tickets for Leeds, where they were headlining at a small venue (wardrobe) this coming Feb then the day after they cancelled the entire tour, with a press statement so brief and vague the official BFC site could take lessons, and promptly disappeared without trace. Looks like I was oblivious when it was important and now I've just missed the boat.
Yeah. I saw they were touring and am vaguely familiar, but all the dates are cancelled and even their website still lists them as future concerts.
