On this day in 1993, with new Player Manager Viv Anderson and Player/Coach Danny Wilson, the Reds won 2-0 at Watford, giving them the first victory under their management. Watford had a certain teenager playing one of his first handful of games for them - Bruce Dyer. He was uncharacteristically sent off - for the first and only time during his career. How ironic it was against the Reds. Later that season Bruce would be sold to Crystal Palace, becoming the first £1m teenager in British football. And of course he later joined the Reds from Palace in 1998.
I remember not being keen on our new kit changes that season, making the collar black for the first ever time. It was very much like a ManUre rip off kit.
I think I went to that game. Did Bryson score for us? Wonder if you still have to do a detour around the allotments at Vicarage Road?
Bruce Dyer was a 2 team wan..? On a serious note, 1997 was the first year I went football, as a 4 year old. Have very vague memories of Bruce, but having seen plenty of him since, what a gem he was, and more importantly, still is.
