with our thousands of supporters that makes us what must be the quietest ground in the leagues?
It has been like this for years, just small pockets trying to lift the moment, but then it fizzles out to nothing.
The Coventry fans even had a go at us for not singing and getting behind the team.
Come on you brainy lot..... why are we all so damned miserable?
Surely our players would respond to noise and encouragement from the stands. They must think they're totally isolated out there.
Even at Wembley, we were all pathetic.

Might be because all the "real" fans spend all their energy shouting "YOU REDS" on here and then have nothing in the tank for the actual match?

two open corners, an away stand that is too big and a totally inept manager.

Because Barnsley fans, more than any other, would rather grumble and moan. It's far more enjoyable to them to berate the team, complain and critisise than waste all that valuable energy in encouragement. They pay their money and expect to win, not to see a game of football, they pay to see a win and when that doesn't happen, like spoilt brats they climb in and take down players. A strong team is built on self belief - self belief has a foundation in having others believe in what you're doing and that you're doing it right - there's none of that either at home or away (though less so away).
    You get what you deserve.
Simon Davey, like most of the other managers before him must wonder what the fook is going on sometimes, and constantly have to look up the word 'supporter ' in the dictionary.

C'mon people, it's your town and your team. Stand with them or enjoy the fall.

But I didn't hear any booing on Saturday... I didn't hear many people slating the players.

All I heard was people talking amongst themselves and discussing how unbalanced the team looked,

how slow our centre backs are,

how poor Bobby gets played anywhere except right back,

how Leon was usually too deep to create anything with his ability

how anytime Devaney or Hassell got in behind a **** cross ensued because both a right footed

how poor the service to the strikers was (see the points about Leon and Devaney/Hassell above)

    how poor Teale looked

    how fat Rigters looked

how it took Davey so long to make a sub and when he did it was............. stick another striker up top

why we need 3 strikers on the bench when he has no intention of using Mr Mostto

    how w4nk Davey is.

I wonder if he looks up the words "Manager" and Coach" as well?

It's a bit like the old Chicken & Egg scenario. Which comes first, the crowd aprobation or the good performance?

The Coventry fans were abusing their own players and manager for most of the game.

    Of course the irony is

Oakwell is quite a fortress (in so much as Barnsley's home form is much much better than their away form) despite the quiet crowd.

Maybe it does help the team in a counter-intuitive way.

I noticed that - one of the most annoyingly ironic things was that in the last attack before he scored Julian Gray gave the ball away and they all started chanting for Leon Mackenzie. Next minute, Gray scores and they were all singing his name again - fickleness is not just a Barnsley phenomenon.

Looking back at QPR too, you'd have to say that the home noise wasn't great and I'd go as far as to say our away support was better than Covs - with significantly less to encourage them on the pitch.

Same as 2006, Andrews was brought on for McKenzie and they all started chanting "you don't know what you're doing", he scored straight away.
