...he wanted to sign Oddjob last season. Obviously rates him. First name on the team sheet - gerrin theer.
I would laugh if I wasnt crying so hard. Quite rightly any new manager will say all the players have a "clean slate " etc, but how will Robins assess them when he has no measure of what makes a good Championship striker?
But, he wanted to sign him for a league 1 team. which is rather different. He may not want to play him in the league above.
He was a decent championship striker and played in championship level most of his career, he wanted ode because manager get players for the level the player is needed to perform. I think hes worth a chance.
Odejayi would do well in League Two So wanting to sign him for Rotherham isn't a bad thing. And I haven't missed the point - I'm sure Robins will be pretty good at judging strikers given his past, regardless of where he manages now.
I'll leave it for now cos as someones pointed out, even though this is a website for discussing Barnsley FC, there's more to life. But ask youself this, when Davey was sacked, was Robins on your shortlist for replacing him? Its comical that suddenly the mood has changed in the last 48hrs just because he's someone new ie not Davey so he must be better. I refuse to accept that he's the best we can do. We've narrowed our search down to one man it seems, a League 2 manager with no experience of Championship football. Time will tell.
he is on a hiding to nothing coming from a lower league club with no reputation or previous success he commands no respect from anyone. He is going to have to earn it. If he gets off to a bad start what do you think will happen? Now compare that to curbishley - people would be prepared to give him time because he's been there and done it!
If he doesn't get the respect from the players... ...he should release the lot on free transfers. F.ck em and start again. I think he'd get more time as he's young and inexperienced - people would be expecting Curbishley to get us promoted in his first season.
Alternatively... People would give Curbishley six months tops and if we weren't where the fans expected there'd be calls for his head. Robins may be given more leeway given his inexperience at this level and the need to find his feet. Both of them get their teams to play football. That'd do me for starters.
Yes, I always though Robins would be in with a shout. He's been mentioned as a possibility loads of times.
RE: I'll leave it for now Go on then if the moods changed how come he was one of the most popular choices in every poll on here for about the last year, and regarding the striker thing, having played up front for Man U and others I would think he has a pretty good idea what it takes
the words 'inexperienced' and 'find their feet' didnt really ought to be part of the equation here. We took a gamble on Davey who was both of those. Look where we are now. If he comes in i will get behind him but i just think its a massive massive gamble once again.
No reputation? He's played at a higher level than most of our bunch o' wasters can ever dream of!
If that doesn't command respect heaven help us.

how did Davey assess them when he had no measure of what makes a good adult footballer? He didn't only not know what a good CHAMPIONSHIP footballer looked like, he had NO experience working with adults had he?
