Had to clear up Ritchie's mess in season 1, when his insistence on sticking with promotion winning players clearly not up to the harder job, had us on course for a swift return to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy!

I'm pretty sure one of the reasons Ritchie went was that he refused to spend the money available.

    No it isn't.

Shepherd refused to give Shukerthe extra £5k a year he asked for and booted him out for not signing on the same terms as he'd been on before. That's how tight they were with the budget! /poo

Shuker got what he deserved. He messed us about the year before and was trying to do the same again.

Actually its not rubbish, well not totally anyway. Ritchie was given £325k transfer budget for the season. Straight from the Horses mouth.

and now he's...nowhere! not many players leave barnsley for the better do they....the exception of course if they go to scnuthorpe in which case they start playing ten times better!

    not totally correct

he was removed because he would not sign the players being offered to him and I think it was shown that those players were not good enough anyway, ie. Knight etc.

No-one's saying he didn't have a budget. Of course he had one. He just didn't use it. He only brought Togwell and McIndoe in, spending around half of what you say was the budget. No idea whether that was the budget or not. But he went on record several times joking that the board was begging him to spend money.

Aye, cos he was having to did £200k for the likes of Jay Tabb

and Lee Williamson cos that's all he could afford. They each went for about 3 times that. He agreed a fee of £250k for Kenwynne Jones but Shep wouldn't sanction the wages. That's the type of players he was looking at.

He could have afforded Leon Knight though!
