We should all remember Best for his genius and simply ignore his alcholism because "it's a disease". Gary Glitter, on the other hand, deserves to die. Actually, fair point. He's crap. Scrap the question. There isn't one.
I suppose you could say that GG didn't seek treatment and allowed himself to stay at large and damaging children. Bestie did and only hurt himself.
Have you ever had more to drink than is sensible and while you were have you never done anything that you regretted afterwards?
RE: Thats the weakest excuse for doing something ........ It isn't an excuse for doing anything. It's a fact! It happens! Some people are strong willed enough to overcome these tendencies and some people aren't but the potential is in all of us. But for the grace of god etc.
It is an excuse , are you saying that anyone who does something whilst under the influence of drink is guilty of nothing???(dunno)
RE: It is an excuse , No that isn't what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that most people do things that they later regret, whilst under the influence of drink. George Best's "crime" was that he wasn't strong willed enough not to repeat his mistakes. Judge not, lest you be judged!
I don't know anything about those things Helen and they certainly are wrong but we we're comparing paedophilia to alcoholism. As I've said before Bestie did not enjoy the same luxury of rational thought as non-alcoholics (including paedophiles) and he did try to sort himself out but failed. Alcoholism does not necessarily lead to wife-beating and drink driving and the alcoholic will always believe he can control himself whilst drunk. The paedophile, the sex tourist for instance, is premeditative in his actions. Can I just try something by the way? I say water is wet, what do you say?
RE: I am sure I have done things I regret whilst drunk , But your actions aren't being scrutinised by the media every time you stray off the beaten track are they. Are you suggesting that George Best didn't take responsibility for his? When did he ever blame anyone else for whatever happened to him?
RE: So its the media's fault now is it??? As I said before, when did he ever blame anyone but himself for his problems?
To my mind no rational human being would risk imprisonment or the death penalty for the sake of touching children. Maybe the same compulsive behaviour is there in both alcoholics & paedophiles? BTW< I don't know the answer, just thinking aloud!
