Personally I'd prefer to give a player a 12 month contract to see how they perform rather than risk tying them in to a long term contract and they turn not to be up to much, ok it backfired with vaz te but think of some of the players we've had in the past, imagine if we'd signed them all on a 3 year contract, only my opinion like,
got to agree........... getting something for nothing then selling it for £500.000 6 months later thats bad business
I don't really know the ins and outs of transfer/contract dealings but it would be good if the club could sign the player on a one year deal but having the option written into the contract to extend it by say another year in January? Not sure how feasable this is, but must be worth trying in negotiations, especially with out of contract players. I'm sure similar things have been in Place before, didn't Andy Gray take up the option of extending his deal by one season at the end of last year, leaving the club with no say in the matter?
Re: One year deal. my penorth for what its worth. My son and I were discussing this earlier this week and I said that with so many players out of contract and available on a free it's my opinion that we will see a lot of One year deals at clubs like ours. We do not pay big wages but players want a club so those who are used to bigger wages than we pay will be happy to sign a one year deal on lower wages just to get a club. Is that a bad thing? I don't think it is, should we not sign a player that could turn out to be a good player for us just because he will only sign a one year contract. Now I know the knockers will carp on about him going for £500k in January ala Vaz Tea but I don't think that I am the only one that thinks that was a decent bit of bussiness.
I agree mate, sometimes These contracts are a no win situation, do you risk offering a 3 year contract and hope the player turns into a gem or risk end up been stuck paying out wages on a dud,
No more Kevin Donovan- like deals on offer Good. If the lad proves his worth during the season, then see about offering him an improved deal.
Street cred?? Mmm I vaguely remember having something like street cred many years ago but that soon went when I said the word "cool" in front of my lad
