Although we have cause for concern with the way we have finished the season, the only time we have been in the relegation zone was after the first 3 games. The closest amount of points that we have been away from the relegation zone is the amount we had prior to today I think which is 7. The way we have finished the season though is unacceptable. At one point, I think we were 15 points clear of the bottom 3 but make no ends about it, we have just experienced relegation form and next season it needs to improve dramatically. I ain't one for being negative and I aint gonna start. We need to stick by Hill and let him build what he has started. I do believe it will be sink or swim next season but after experiencing his first season in the championship, I do believe he is a manager that will get better and understand the calibre of player we now need to bring in. There are hidden gems in the lower leagues that need a bit of polishing. Rickie Lambert and Danny Graham prove this as they were both playing League 2 level 3-4 seasons ago. I also think we need to add proven championship experience but we can improve even on a low budget. The youth we have coming through will probably play a bigger part next season and I do believe we have some talent in there. When you look at the likes of Rose, Stones, Digby and Clark, when was the last time we had anything coming through the ranks. We normally get the odd one (Butterfield to note) but here we have a batch of players ready to step up and I do believe they will. Maybe a month or so is needed out on loan in League 2 for a couple of them but things do look bright even though the form a lately hasn't. Players wise, I think we need a new spine in the team starting with a new CB, creative midfielder (Howard) and a striker to partner Davies who has pace. We have had the spine ripped apart in January and never replaced them with Drinkwater, Vaz Te and Butterfield all lost. The Butterfield deal needs closing as soon as possible and I hope the rumours are true that there may be a bidding war (which includes a transfer fee) between one or two sides to sign him up before his contarct runs out this season. I have renewed for next season and hope a few more decide to do so aswell, although most people around me in the ponty are choosing their games next season instead of buying a ST. Onwards and upwards.
According to my records, and backed up by the BFC website, we were 20th after 3 games. The lowest we have been after this was 20th and 21st over the last 4 games.
