...well hopefully anyway. Thoroughly enjoyed saturday, despite the result. I thought we competed very well although we struggled up front - story of our season really. Everything about the day was how I'd always imagined Cup Final day to be - and more. The sense of occasion was unreal. Had a great time before and after the game with Portsmouth fans and it was good to see how deeply both sets of fans cared about their clubs. Vastly different to what I've witnessed in Cup Finals involving the glory hunters at the MillStad. Only dark spot on the day was on travelling there, one of my mates decided to get off his coach at Membury services through the emergency exit. Broke his tibia & fibula and ruptured his tendons. Air ambulance from there & operation today. Unlucky - made someone up there very happy though with his ticket!
Commiserations! Still, at least you enjoyed the day! How did the whole experience compare to the semi? Much bigger and better I'd imagine?
How was the atmosphere this time around?
You'll always be able to look back on a brilliant cup run, and you'll always be the team that (somehow) beat the giant killers

Couldn't bring myself to watch it to be honest, still hurts to have come so close to a final and miss out.
How was the atmosphere in the ground- I guess better than the Semi just because its a final? But was it noticable that there weremore neutrals in the ground, what with the allocations being less to accomodate sponsors etc?

RE: Cheers Difficult to compare them tbh but you were definately aware it was MUCH bigger. I can fully understand how the enormity of the occasion could get to certain players - whoever they play for. Everything about it seemed surreal - it was the FA Cup Final and Cardiff were involved. It doesn't happen. The build-up has had wall to wall coverage down here as you can imagine and particularly in the last week. That's normally reserved for the funny-shaped ball merchants in these parts. Atmosphere was very good before, during and after the game with great banter between both sets of fans. Pompey fans expected to win what with them being a Premiership side and that - but they still had a lot of doubts. You never know, they may even try to learn another song by next season as well. And at least I can tick another sporting "must see" off the list as "done".
Can understand that, no probs. I did think the atmosphere was quite a bit better tbh. Maybe because the semis are so tension mounted and when you get to the final theres that sense of relief and appreciation of the fact you're there anyway. Who knows. Wasn't particularly aware of the neutrals, was too concerned with matters on the pitch and shouting my head off!
RE: Hard luck Thought up until they scored we were the better side. After they scored, they played that bit higher up the field and strangled the game out of us. We were lacking that extra bit of quality to take it to them, particularly up front. Story of our season really, particularly when our best forward is a winger turned back-up striker.
Cheers mate The memories of saturday will live with me for a long time. Can't imagine waht it would have been like if we'd won it.
RE: How did the Cardiff supporters behave? I'd have a look on the pompey fan site for the answer to that
RE: How did the Cardiff supporters behave? Perfectly well actually. I've not heard of anything untoward going on. In fact, both sets seemed to mix well and have a real good laugh together. Theres quite a bit of history with Cardiff and Pompey and I was expecting something to kick off. Thankfully, it didn't.
RE: How did the Cardiff supporters behave? I think Cardiff have a 'history' with almost everyone in the football league i.e every English team
I thought you played well Your defence was excellant I thought. Gaolkeeper looked a bit suspect. Midfield tried but Pompey's class, pace and power in that position meant they dominated. Had nothing up front although Parry caused a few problems for them. all in all I thought you did the Championship proud and it sounded like the best atmosphere for an FA cup final for years. Congratulations on the cup run and I suppose it will always be something that will stick in Barnsley and Cardiff minds for a long long time. Gutted it wasn't us though!!!!!!!!
Ridsdale said he was having talks with Hamman this week and the finances should be sorted out............Administration it is then !!!
