So the season hasn't started yet, and already the expectations of some posters are split between "promotion" and "relegation". Personally, I think we'll consolidate at lower mid-table, but a good or bad run could make us flirt with either. With our budget and previous seasons at this level I think most of us would see that as a reasonable achievement. Realistically our first aim has to be survival so we can have at least another season at this level. Historically, to do that we will need 54+ points to be safe. Over a 9 month season that equates to 6 points per month. I can't see any reason why we can't achieve this (except possibly in November which only has 3 league games) - I know we technically have a game in May but already can't see us getting much from a visit to Newcastle on the last day! Better still would be 7 points per month which would see us achieve survival by the start of April. Some months we'll fall short, but in other months hopefully we'll make up the points - for instance, I can see us getting 8 points in August (draw at Hudds, beat Rotherham and either Derby or QPR and draw the other at home), but only maybe 5 points in September and 7 points in October.
I think good home form will be key this season if we can make Oakwell a fortress we could finish quite comfortably
Off the pitch lessons have been learnt....we will hold our own Im sure and i for one think we will surprise quite a few...I will stand by my prediction 10th..and a semi final..to boot..
