Just driven down the M62 near Leeds and got flashed by the variable speed camera gantries... twice! Thing is, there was no variable speed set on the gantries which would indicate a 70mph limit. I had my cruise control on at 60. It was raining and a fair bit of standing water so I'm happy to plod along at 60 in those conditions. Going to be properly annoyed if they try and get me for that. Can't imagine it'll show that the gantries were turned off in the photos will it? Has anyone been caught by these cameras? Happy to contest it but worried it might be a case of my word against theirs... and we know how that'll turn out.
Whatdotheyknow.com You may as well get in early and request that they tell you the limits, if any, shown on the gantries between junctions a and b between times x and y. It will at least help arm you with information if they do send anything and only takes a minute to do.
Good news is, they’ll have flashed every single car that passed that stretch. If you were doing 60 and flashed then the limit must have been a maximum of 50 and no one will have been doing less than that on a motorway, rain or no rain. The sheer volume of people there’ll be, all saying the exact same thing, must count for something.
