Question, meeting a few old mates tomorrow for a couple of beers, we’ve decided on Barnsley, is it worth it? Not been for a day drink in a while and especially since the renovation. Any tips or do we stay local? Don’t want to be spending all day in a spoons.
Yes. Barnsley is great now for day drinking. It depends on what you like, but there's plenty of pubs up the arcade, and then quite a few new places on Market Hill and Shambles Street. I'd probably do that route.
If you want to sit with mates and have a chin wag you can do worse than go to Heaven and Ale on Agnes Road.
Pavilion, Tin Oyle and Tipsy Cow up by Gateway Plaza are decent, couple of hours there then down to the arcade via No.7
Barnsley Town centre is brilliant nowadays for a boozy afternoon, loads of good places to pass the day in good company.
Which ones? Might treat my other half to a pub crawl for his Birthday. He likes Porters in particular.
My recommendation for a sunny day would be Commercial, summer Lane, nice beer garden George and Dragon, summer Lane, nice outside area (large but wouldn't call it a garden) Tipsy Cow and Tim Oyle, top of Fitzwilliam Street, both nice outside areas Spiral City and Jolly Tap down the Arcade Silkstone, market Street, nice outside tables Maison du Bierre Castlereagh Street And my favourite with roadside tables, Heaven and Ale on Agnes Road
Thank you. I’ve been in a few of those but selfishly never taken much notice of the real ale offerings. Does Spiral City do real ale? I’ve been in a few times and never noticed.
