Club doesn't own the Academy complex so all the money would go to Barnsley Council/Cryne's company. However, plenty of Sunday League sides would love to play on any of those pitches. Not sure what rents they pay these days to the council but we used to pay £500 a season donkeys years ago for a ****-tip. Don't know how many pitches there are but you could probably get £10,000 a year just from Sunday League. Dewsbury RLFC have a car boot sale every Sunday on their car-park. Could easily do the same on the BFC car-park but as I said - no money in the club's coffers.
No, the pitches are bad enough. They play too many games on there now. They are trying to use them LESS not more.
I'm pretty sure that the money would go to the club as we are the full time tenants of Oakwell. We'd get money for hiring out the academy pitches in exactly the same way as we get money for selling tickets to friendlies on the main stadium. Apparently the club applied for planning permission to hold car boots but got turned down
I stand corrected then ST. Not sure how the pitches are overused Hemmsie - how many games are played on each pitch? The pitch I played on when I was a lad was used 3 times every weekend throughout the season, Saturday Morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. We had a good groundsman who made sure they were always in decent nick. One of those pitches is astorturf - surely that could be hired out?
the pitches you played on, are you trying to be funny? you go over on your ankle and you will not be able to do PE and play out with your friends after school when you was younger. Jacob Mellis or Perkins goes over and they could be out for weeks or possibly months costing the club 10,000 or even 100,000's. the Pitch were the first team train (the lowest part of the training pitches) are used most of the week and maybe a youth team plays there sunday Middle pitch, first team do tatical stuff on there and the u21's and u18's play on it. Top pitch next to indoor centre u18's train there and u16's play on it on a saturday. i think u16's train on there 1 day and then all the age groups from u16's down to u8's use it on a night. i saw the pitches and they weren't good enough.
Lenticular turf. It's the only rational explanation. One of you two must be slightly taller than the other.
To be fair HT was on his knees at the time giving a few of the academy lads what is now known as a 'bobby hassell'
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that he isn't talking about the pitches that simon de montforte played on as a young un
People who have left school often play football too you know. If that person then becomes injured they may not be able to work and earn a living (usually a modest one) so they themselves may be out of pocket and can't afford to be as they have bills etc to pay. Any of this ring any bells ?
Cheeky little bugger. I played to a decent standard in the County Senior league. The pitch we played on was used by Sheffield Wednesday Juniors every Saturday morning and they were in the top flight. Some of those Wednesday Juniors went on to play at the highest level. Our pitch wan't a cow's field, it was as good a pitch as you'll get. Can't ever remember anyone ever spraining their ankle on it in all of the years I played there. Like I said, we had a decent groundsman who was down there every day of the week tending it, repairing it and rolling it. I'm pretty sure we will have groundsmen for the Academy pitches unless you know different.
