I think he's in touch...

...just tight with his money. Exhibit A - Simon Davey. He himself said we needed an experienced manager but then probably realised how much it would cost.

    The club has a budget

...And they dont want to go over that budget, simple as that.

    It's not shepherd being tight.

    End of day

If Shepherd wanted to risk throwing money away to stay up he will, but if we went down we would be back to square one and administration would happen again.

People are saying this season is the worst in many of years but I personally think the worst ever season was when we just stayed up in L1 and went in Administration and I hope to god we dont have a season like that again.

We arent a club who spend alot of money and this season we all knew we were going to struggle so I aint surprised we are 22nd and 1 point of relegation.

People are moaning because we havent appointed a "big named manager" but when was last time we did?

Call me a happy clapper all you like but I just think we are not a club who'd attract the big managers or players which some fans think we can.

I agree with you but.....the way things are being done is crap....announcing we have made bids for players when we know damn well they are not high enough, wanting experience and knowing damn well we will not pay enough......come on who are we trying to kid here !?!?! Just state the facts and get some respect... we are on a tight budget (lowest wage bill in the Championship) we can't (or won't) gamble too much as we may not stay up....we want to try and stay up but.........

I agree that he goes about the clubs business in totally the wrong way but we now have to wait and see what happens. What ever we may think about Davey heis the boss and will be until at least the end of the season. You never know he may surprise us and the players he brings in may do the job. If we are talking to 5 players then good, we all know the squad needs strengthening and we wont know how good the players are no matter what division they have come from. If at the end of the season we have gone down and daveys players have bombed out then we can judge him - not until.

Unfortunately that is something we cant change. At least gord is trying to bring players in he's just going about it the wrong way.

    Spot on

shepherd is quite consistent. criticises ritchie for not buying players; brings in his own players (but he aint the manger) to prove that ritchie is wrong and now lets everyone know that he is bidding for players (to prove he has the best interests of the club at heart) but the bids wont attract the players. its a publicity stunt to divert blame from him.
barnsley dont have much money, wont attract players or a proven manager as a result and will need to survive within that framework until something changes.
lets just be honest about it. we all want survival in this league and we might get it but we wont buy it.
fingers crossed that the cheap options work out.

i donr think the bid for williamson was too far off. i reckon hoskins must be worth close to a million and the pair have gone for 1.2 million so it was a decent opening offer

    RE: Can I just Say...........................

Would you want a chairman who did what Ridsdale did at Leeds.............. I.e., see below.

P.Diddy - I want to buy Seth Johnson from Derby and have a offer ready.

Chairman - Ok, throw the offer and we'll see what we can do.

P.Diddy - Ok, you ready for it.................. £7.5million.

    Chairman - YOU WHAT (Smiling)

    P.Diddy - £7.5 million and not a penny more.

Chairman - Well we were only looking for £4 million.

P.Diddy - Well im not going a penny more, take it or leave.

What Im trying to say is some Chairman go in for the kill straight away, throwing more money than is required to get the player. Common sense says bid low, and increase if rejected.
